So question, do any of us have a garage with tools, and absolutely love to work on cars that wants to help me with a few things?

Haha. Nice! Well I just put in a new transmission mount and it's making A LOT of nerveracking sounds. Also, I'm trying to do a transmission fluid change and rear diff...

you will hear noises you have never heard before with the tranny mount.

trust me...

even more if you do the cross member bushings (which you could have done since you pull it out to do the tranny mount)

I did the bushings too. But this isnt normal i don't think :/ something is off. Feels like something is hitting something else (maybe the downpipe against the tranny?) it sounds like harsh knocking

I'll have to check yours out then. Mine does it while I'm idling a lot. Even when I'm not in gear

Hey guys, apologies for the thread hijack. I just moved from NY to Mar Vista and need to find a local shop to give my car the once over (I drove from NY and something's started making an odd noise). Any recommendations?

John

Oh, and i guess while I'm asking, a body shop - from parking on Manhattan streets my rear bumper looks like it's been raped by a steel unibody gorilla.

Hell yeah! East coast! Glad to hear you made the trip! Made the trip from Philadelphia out here about 6 months ago. A month later my oil filter failed and spued oil everywhere luckily I made it to a dealership before any damage occured . Unfortunately this post is no help to you because I do not know of any good shops yet that don't charge an arm and a leg like a dealership would. But all the guys (and girls) out here are great and sure to have some good suggestions. You should stop by the meet this week (I hope it's this week). I am sure someone will correct me. Oh boy do I have some stories about trying to park in manhattan visiting the gf. It was horrendous!

Welcome to Cali!

it really depends how far you want to drive. i have heard great reviews from suby specialties in Monrovia (about 30-35 miles from here). i personally go to apollo performance in Upland (a little further but great dudes).

as far as body shop, maybe todd (2kool) can give you a recommendation. he knows a few places in this area.

I use AQ motorsports in torrance for service. They have been great for me and a lot closer.
Not sure about body work but let me know when you find a spot. My car has a few LA bruises as well

Cheers guys, I appreciate the suggestions.

How is the on street parking out here? Do people simply use your bumper as marker to let them know when to stop like they do in NY? Just wondering if I'll be wasting my cash shelling out to get my back bumper completely resprayed.

truth is, there are a-holes everywhere, there are people who could care less if they left your bumper a battle scar. i have stopped caring long ago about my rear bumper and its scars. if you can live with it, i say leave it as is. unless you have garaged parking and non-street parking at work...

It's true. I only have a few marks but there are marks for sure. I have been wanting to get my bumper redone but ill probably just redo my front since its missing some paint and done a few scrapes. Unless your rear bumper is destroyed it's probably better to just leave it so you won't feel like crap when you notice the first mark again

Haha, they're on every other car in New York. You can get full wrap around ones that cover your whole bumper too. I always thought it sort of defeated the point as your car looks like cr@p, but I guess the owners are more interested in resale value???

Yeah, these are everywhere in NYC. I think a lot of people leave em in their trunk and once they get where they want to go, just open the trunk and quickly lay it out. Wouldnt take long. But I want one with spikes sticking out, or covered in sandpaper on the outside for the people even considering tapping my car
