Default The music when using AUX port only comes out of one side of the car...What gives?

I have an 07 rex with the standard auxiliary port for an ipod/mp3 player etc..

When I plug in my ipod the sound only comes from the driver side of the car. I tried adjusting all the settings on the 6cd changer to no avail. Does anyone know a fix for this? Thanks

Does the cable you are using have a single black stripe? If so thats your problem you have a mono cable, you need one with 2 black stripes on the part that goes into the radio.

If this is a new problem you may have worn away the contact surface on your plug (it is now to skinny to conduct properly) and you need a new plug.

But it sounds like:

I had this problem too, i pulled it out halfway and it start working on both sides, it turned out to be the wire. i went thru all this crap trying to get the faceplate fixed (got a new faceplate) and then it turned out to be the aux wire.

Yeah, sometimes not all headphone jacks are created equally. There may be just a slight variation between the jack and the plug-- causing it to only play through one side. Try wiggling the plug around or try a different cord/plug.

(I didn't think they still make mono stuff?)

The plug should be a trs connection (tip ring sleeve) and either the female end on the car or the male end on the cable could have a problem keeping it from making the connection.

The sleeve, or the bottom most part of the connector, is typically ground. The ring, or the middle part, is typically the right channel and the tip is typically the left.

If there's a connection issue at the plug itself it would be the center of the connector, the ring. As Davetsbass said it could be the ring is worn and "too skinny" to make the connection. Also, it could be the contact within the female end of the connection is bent inward and does not reach the male plug.

All options have been exhausted as for as adjustability on the ipod and on the stereo.

This has been happening since day one when I bought the car a little over a year and a half ago so I do not think it is worn. I usually just listen to CD's or the radio but I am going on a fairly length roadtrip which is why I want to finally fix it.

When I had the wire I do not remember how many black strips were on it. I think I bought the cheapest one when I went to best buy and I ended up returning it. I guess I'll get one with two black strips to start and see if that alleviates the problem.

I appreciate all the support!

It could be the ipod itself. I had this issue and it turned out the jack in my ipod was not working properly. When I tried my headphones I could only hear sound from one ear bud. If I moved the plug around sound would come in and out of the side that wasn't working.

I tried a newer ipod and everything worked just fine for me.

I'm having this same problem with the aux in on a 2010 impreza with a sat/nav hu. I've tried multiple working cables, even took apart the console to look for any obvious wiring problems. Did anyone have any luck finding solutions?

Subaru Stars AUX Troubles

It is most likely the actual aux cable. The connections on cheap cables usually only last around a month, then they start going out and doing what you are describing. Just buy an upgraded aux cable and this problem should be erased.

Thanks, but I've already tried three perfectly good working cables. I do music production on the side so I have plenty of working 1/8th inch stereo cables around.

I know this is an old thread but I am having a similar problem. I installed a C-123 in my 07 2.5i with the aux and a pig tail for it. I grounded wire number 4. I tried it out and everything worked great! After I put my dash back together, AUX music only plays on the right side of the car. CD and radio play on all speakers. I have no clue why. The aux cable is brand new just bought today. Right when i realized it, I wiggled the AUX cable a bit and it worked on all speakers and than it stopped and only worked on the right side again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes my stock radio does this, sound only from one side. It will happen when it's on aux but persists when I switch to another source (radio or CD). It usually only happens when I start the car up after its been sitting a while. The only thing that fixes it is adjusting the balance, like the balance will say 0 but sound only comes from the passenger side, but when I balance the sound toward the pside it will start coming out of all the speakers again. Just a weird glitch once in a while.

If it works for a moment when you wiggle it, and you know for sure the cable is good, then it sounds like the aux input jack is dirty or defective

Ok. I'll try to clean it but it looks new. I decided I'm gonna take it apart again tomorrow and look at all the wires to make sure they're all good in the back

I took mine into an aftermarket shop recommended by my dealer and they went through two separate aux harnesses and aux jacks, nothing fixed the problem. They talked to subaru tech and they said it had to be an issue with the main wiring harness. I'm beyond pissed as I listen to so much music and am tired of having hundreds of CD's jostling around in my car. Let me know if anyone can offer any insight!

Are you having the same problem as me? Because my aux cable was detective and I had bought it brand new that day. It fixed my problem

Na man, multiple cables/devices/jacks/harnesses, nothing gives. I just don't understand how it can be the main wiring harness if the radio itself plays through both sides and only the aux does not, but perhaps the aux uses a separate pin channel or something? It was a freakin mystery to me, but they had a one/one connection with everything pulled apart, multiple parts combo's, and nothing worked. Very strange.

So, still no one else has ever experienced this?

I took it into a shop and they had ordered me a separate port, cable, and everything, even tried with a different head unit of the same model. They concluded something must be wrong with the primary electrical harness system, but that made such little sense to me if the rest of the radio is playing through left and right just fine. I mean, would the aux input portion of the radio somehow use a separate electrical pin channel from the rest of the radio system? Seems bizarre and unlikely.
