Talking Operation New York Trip: 9/11 10th Anniversary

Hey whats up my Subaru Brethren! I am taking my Subaru on a trip From Houston, TX to New York, New York. Along the way I would love to catch in some hot spots for food and culture. We will be stopping in Gatlinburg, TN for a couple of days, so if there are any Subaru folks around there and you would like to make a small trip to Gatlinburg for some cold ones its on me! (well at least the first couple of rounds ha ha). After that its to Philly for a couple of nights, the drink offer appplies here also and then on to New York for the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 (once again the drink offer applies here also).

Basically I would like to meet some Subaru drivers of America along the way. Hell if you got the time we can cruise together along the stretch of the trip as I will be making a sort of Documentary of the trip and that would be a great aspect. I will post an itinerary later to get more exact plans established.

Here is the ride to be looking for when the time comes.

Ok...we will be in Philly for a couple of nights taking in the scenes and trying Geno's and Pat's. We are planning to leave for New York on the 9th in the evening and be in New York for the 9th-12th so we can go to Ellis Island, take the car to some fire houses and see some of New York.

I like your idea for the trip and I hate to rain on your parade but driving around new york city is the biggest pain in the ass and real hard to find parking anywhere you go. Just be prepared especially on 9/11 to be even worse getting around the city. I'm in the USMC reserves over in brooklyn and I know for 9/11 I'll be taking part with a bunch of other guys for the memorial ceremony @ ground zero and its already expected to be more hectic there that day than it would be on NYE in times square. Reguardless I like your car I can definitely appreciate that as i'm sure many FDNY firefighters will when they see that. sorry for the negativity just wanted to give you the heads up before you go in. Its funny to see out of state drivers go through manhattan and watch them freak out as they navigate their way through traffic.

Thats actually pretty awesome! like what you did with the ride too.

As im sure you already know it hit many of us extremely hard here as some of us knew who were involved that day. I had to sit and watch from the other side of the river worrying about freinds and loved ones that lived right there, and not being able to get to them to help.

I'd be up for a cruise.

I lived in NJ on 9/11. I also had friends that had to walk out of Manhattan that day, we had customers at work panicked because they had family in the towers. I could see the smoke where I was. Not a good memory at all.

This is a really cool trip you're planning, omni. You'll get a lot of love in that car around here. I'll keep my eye on this thread and see if I'm available to participate in any way as the time gets closer.

Ps. Make sure you take some pics of your car on top of the art museum. It'll be worth your while.

This is awesome, having a background in fire makes this effin' awesome for me. I love your roof vinyl.

I can see if I can get any of the Philly/Camden City FD guys to meet you when you get up here. I'd love to get a few shots of your car atleast with some Camden City apparatus once you arrive in Philly...

Oohrah Marine...there is a difference between raining on the parade and distributing facts. A lot of times civvies can't tell the difference but most of us fighting men can. I am a combat veteran myself of OEF and the beginning of OIF. Been fighting the good fight with the 82nd Airborne, 101st Airborne, and 10th Mountain Division. I will adapt and overcome any obstacles that will be laid before me. Even considering leaving the car parked at our hotel once we get there and indulge in the Public Transportation bit. Hopefully we can find ourselves a friendly guide in the Subaru Community but either way, we will be there.

Yes sir I can imagine, but that is all. I am proud though to have been able to put foot to ass for the Red, White, and Blue to strike back for those who were unable to.

I work down there... I'd be down to meet you for a drink. Word of caution though, its going to be difficult to park anywhere near the area because of re-routed traffic and police activity.

I may even be able to give you another perspective of ground zero if it's too nuts with people.

I definitely want to see that car when your in Philly. There are some PFD people that work with me at the hospital ambulance. I'll talk to them and see about some things like a tour around their station for your doc or get some firefighters and an engine for pics at the art museum. I dunno. Let me know if it sounds good or if you have anything in mind as I'm also stationed next to the firefighters union building. I'm sure they would be more than happy to participate.

I feel you on the unamused face Marine. As soon as we go back from OEF we were told to gear up for OIF just 5 months later. Talk about a pain in the ass. But we have our duty to do as we have been blessed by the Almighty to have the bravery to do what many others cannot. Make sure I get your address of your station so that we can send you some comfort items from state side.

That would be great if you could arrange that. I would like to get some footage from as many different angles as possible. Plus I feel it would broaden the feel of the quasi-documentary. As far as parking is concerned we are considering leaving the car at the hotel as we will be probably staying on the Hudson on the Jersey side next to the tunnel I do believe.

Pics at the Art museum with Apparatus' sounds great if it can be arranged. Maybe even get the local paper involved. The more the merrier! Anything and everything would be nice though. Tour of the stations would be great of course.

What would be extremely GREAT and absolutely AMAZING would be twin tower trucks Large American Flag hanging in the middle with Car underneath American Flag. But that of course is a long shot...haha! Never know what you can get till you ask!

are you going to make stops for some regional nostalgic food on the way up? Southern BBQ (tennessee preferred), Maryland Crabcakes, Philly Cheesesteaks, New York Pizza

Oh you know it man! Thinking about heading through Memphis and getting some BBQ there. Of course getting it all on film as we experience all the fatty goodness! We will have Philly Cheesesteaks at Pats and Genos as well as in the Market. New York we will have everything from Hot Dogs, Pizza, Delicatezzen to a Great Steak House. I will have to make sure to take plenty of TUMS!

I highly recommend anything BUT Pat's and Geno's for cheesesteaks when you get here to Philly! But then again who am I to judge that? When will you be here? If you're interested I can show you much better spots if you want and even introduce you to the PFD right down the street from my house.
