Doug
Yes you need a remap. The JDM tune uses aggressive timing that will knock on 93oct.

However this issue has been discussed so many times in this thread, that it is so surprising people still ask this question...

Thanks Kayen, this thread is now 167 pages and getting difficult to find specific answers. The search didn't take me to a specific page where I could reference my question, it just gets me to this monster but awesome thread. After reading several pages I realized I should just ask, thanks for your help.

catback wont matter. make sure its 93 octane and stay off the throttle. like mentioned above if your worried get some race gas and throw two gallons in per tank to boost the rating up to like 95 octane. i ran my stock map right away and it never knocked under normal driving conditions. but then all gas quality is different. i also had the 850 injectors in right away and the scaling was a bit rich.

The rule of thumb could/should be if you have to ask the answer is probably yes or recommended you know?

A friend is mailing me a tactrix v1 cable on loan so I can get the maping taken care off. I have no idea how to use the cable, have to figure that out.
Will a octane booster product work if I can't get race fuel ?

I have a perrin turbo inlet from the stock wrx motor with the stock td04, I'm under the impression that it'll work on the ej207 with the vf37, if so I'll definately bee installing it. I guess I should wait to install that till the car is getting mapped.

Torco or however you spell It yields good results. But it'll be expensive to keep doing you know? It would be recommended to have it tuned for what you can readily get.

I still have my version 1 cable. You'll need Rom raider and ECU flash. Both free

Yeh, thanks, started looking into that, will ecuflash work with windows 7 or is it xp or vista only? Got confused about that when was reading the procedure on getting started.

I use xp. Dunno about the rest. It's not something you're going to use repeatedly unless you're tuning and your tuner should have what's necessary anyway. This is only to grab the rom

I'm getting a map made by Clark, I started reading the OS FAQ, it's 2:00am, time to sleep, have a couple of days to figure this out, not worried.

I saw the new version of ecu flash is windows 7 friendly.

I have 2.5" catback, tmic, used the OEM boost control, with CAM 2 100 octane (full tank, $9.5/gal), it did not knock.
I did not do pulls with it, drove normal and kept logging it.
I ran through 3-4 tanks, logged, there was no knock.
Took it once to top boost, to see if it really reaches stock over 18 PSI, it did 18.7 PSI, did not knock.

If you use CAM2 100 (make sure UNLEADED), log and drive without making pulls, you can log and get the answer from the ECU, whether you're OK or not.

Great! Getting it reflashed by Clark for a little extra coin is well worth it. People just need to be prepared for a tune of some sort when they swap their engines.

The best thing is that you will be able to fully enjoy your EJ207 without having to think if you are going to knock.

No one got back to me on this but I found out some more info. The V7 AVCS cam spockets are superceded by the 04-07 USDM STI AVCS Cam sprockets. So even though they are different looking parts, they are interchangeable apparently. Anyone ever try this? This could be good news for anyone trying to maintain a V7 or V8. One less JDM specific part.

This is according to Rallispec whom I was told can get JDM specific parts. They have access to the jdm parts system and emailed me a screen shot that says 13223AA050 (original JDM V7) is superceded by 13320AA000 (Same as USDM). This is for a RH Intake AVCS gear supposedly. If someone can confirm, we are in business and I will swap mine to confirm.

On the sti I have I believe there should be a ground ring terminal on the strut tower that will connect together. It's just a grounding wire.

Just a heads up on something that I don't think has been covered in this thread regarding the factory tune and 93oct.

Here in New Zealand we have JDM imports, there are are number of STI's factory equipted with the ej207 running on the stock tune on 95 or 95ron which is equvilant to 90oct and 93oct, Yes they do knock. (I usually see upto 6 degrees on all the cars I have looked at.) But at the same time the ecu does its job and pulls timing accordingly, Most cars I look at have the IAM at 16 with Learned knock in the upper load region.

The main point of this post is to tell everyone that yes it will knock (this has been covered before)

but these cars are lasting upwards of 120,000miles (We don't have a huge number of high ways so average miles for a car is 10-12,000 per year.

Some of these cars even have a downpipe and still run the factory tune, the ecu is smarter than most think.

Gotta figure out the oil radiator situation, mishimoto has a good mounting setup, not a dirrect ej207 fit.

But I can't find anything to plug into it. How do I ground it?

well if its a ground coming from the engine a good idea would be get a longer piece of wire and run one from the body to the clip via a male spade or just solder them together. your jdm engine came with it but the wrx you have did no probably.
