Default We're really not making fun of the "bullied" anchor lady?

I searched "anchor" to no avail.

http://us.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c3#/...iewer-hln.wkbt

C/N: Viewer emails anchor woman, tells her he's "disappointed" her physical appearance hasn't changed in the last few years, and thinks she should consider her "community responsibility" as a local public personality to be a role model, especially for young girls. Anchor counters with editorial about how the man's words "mean nothing to her" (yet they prompt her to do this public "hear me roar" thing) and equates his email to bullying.

why do most people make fun of any marijuana advocate? because it's "different" and we as a society have been taught to not like that.

What sonicblue is telling us here is that he's not funny enough to come up with any jokes about it, so he needs our help. Meanwhile, I don't think anchor women in general are on OT's radar.

Looks like you're going to have to come up with some funny of your own.

The only problem I have with this whole thing is that the letter was hardly "bullying". Was it in poor taste? Well yeah, obviously, but it was well written, it didn't really make any judgement against her as a person no matter what she says, and frankly, brings up a valid point about people who choose to spend their life in the public eye and representing themselves to the public. It's not something I would have written in a million years, but it's also light years away from "bullying".

Had a good conversation about this last night (happened where I live). Plain and simple, this is a lifestyle choice. Was the guy a little pompous in saying she was overweight and should alter her lifestyle? Absolutely. Was he inaccurate? Nope.

Her reaction was also disingenuous, as she said many times that she didn't care about the content of the letter. Well, if you didn't care, you'd have deleted the email and not turned it into a teachable moment.

Meh.

I have more of an issue with the mindset of the guy who thinks that everyone on TV has to be a role model for everyone watching. The only role model kids need are their parents. Pawning it off on tv personalities and sports stars is just lazy.

Agreed. He brought up a very valid point - she has a massive opportunity, especially now, to lead by example, and instead she's turned her responses into a "I'm not bothered I swear" fat-acceptance speech instead. Coddling people who are living a self-inflicted unhealthy lifestyle does nothing to change the situation. Ever. I am fat and I know it's 100% due to my stupid decisions and lack of self-control. Hell, I'd probably appreciate a letter like that, even though I'd be upset about it at first (and only because I know it's the truth).

I was really looking for more opinions on the "bullying" thing, I thought it was just me who was thinking, "wtf.....bullying?!?!?" Making the thread was prompted by the fact that it's now made the CNN on the TV's at my office, where they're saying she "stood up for herself"....another hero fighting discrimination. In the video, she said something like, "some child in school is going to be called fat," and I thought, "but....if they are fat, the issue is?" Now, if the kid is going to be called "a worthless piece of fat s**t," well....that's a li'l different, but that's not what her emailer said. He just said, she should consider how she may be viewed as a role model. We hold semi-illiterate pro athletes up as ultimate role models, why not a female journalist kids see on TV?

Now you're making excuses for why you think it's ok to point out someone's differences under the guise of being concerned about her health, when it's really coming from a smug sense of superiority about your own physical condition.

I propose that instead of saything anything, we all just shut the **** up.

Man, I need a coffee or something. I'm surly.

Does anyone know if she has been a health advocate or anything in the past? It seems like a random letter unless she has been producing health segments or something. Anyhow it's not bullying, it could've been much worse with less tact.

If you looked in yesterday's 'bullying' thread, it was there too.
