Amazing write up! Really appreciate all of your write ups and I love the photos! I love actually seeing what I need to do instead of just reading it. Always been a picture book person

Default Just Changed my Cluster

I just got done changing out my gauge cluster to red. Just some additional info I want to add. Taking off the film takes a LONG time, so be prepared and be patient. Also, instead of using condoms, I replaced all the bulbs with LEDs. I purchased them though superbrightleds.com. I ordered the highest quality which was 74 HP3, and when they came in I thought they were the wrong ones because they didnt look like bulbs. If you choose this route, please know that the HP3 fits the same way as the bulb, it just looks way different. By the way, I have a 02 WRX so if anyone is looking for the exact size of the bulb it is 74. The websites wont show replacement bulbs for the instrument gauges, but it is the same size as the specifications for the ash tray bulb. Hit me up if you have any questions.

Where can i get the red bulb condoms? The links in the original wright up seems to link to a new bulb with a wire. That is not what i want correct. Here's the link i get.

Nevermind. I'm going LED's from wrxman's link. Seems the best option.

Is there any soldering involved with changing the 02-04 style hvac bulbs to blue LED bulbs or do they plug right into the socket?

Depends on the bulbs.
I used Autolumination SMD towers and they plugged right in.

Ordering the 74 HP3 for the cluster now. But you're saying the "bulb" size is different for the HVAC controls? What would I need to purchase for that? I was under the impression that the HVAC controls were also a size 74 bulb.

For one, he hasn't been on in over a year. Two, he probably gets about 30 pm's about stupid questions like that every month.

Do some searching. They have a search bar for that up in the top right corner, but to answer your question its a 194 bulb......

Anybody have an update on the links to buy the lamp covers/bulbs? The covers aren't available on that site anymore.

Thanks guys, has anyone performed this on an 06-07 before? I took apart my dash and it's definitely quite different in there. I just don't want to break anything

Thanks for the help but that is for an '02. The HVAC on the 06-07 is quite different. When I took it apart, the HVAC unit actually can come out of the dash but there were no light sockets on the back of it. I even took that piece apart, down to the circuit board and nothing. I guess they are in the actual dials then. I just don't want to pry them off, they look fragile.

It's only has 2 bulbs. I didn't have to remove my havoc control on my 03 when I did it I'm pretty sure. I'll double check this weekend.
