vf48 swap into 07 wrx
Hi all! I was thinking of doing a vf48 swap into my 07 wrx.
I needed some opinions on what supporting mods would I need. Sorry but I'm all so new to this. My current setup is a turboback exhaust and I'm running stage 2 with the accessport. The main reason I'm thinking of doing the swap is because I got mad boost creep/spiking issues. I figure, if I need to take out the turbo to port it - why not just upgrade it! One of my questions are also, do I need to port the vf48 so that I won't have any boost creep?

Take the car into a tuner. The whole boost creep issue was mainly with the vf series turbos. Your td04 should not have this problem, hopefully a tuner can fix this problem for you so that you aren't masking some other problem with the car. A vf48 requires the same mods as a vf39 or vf43.

You need to talk to your tuner, NOT us. You'll probably need injectors and fuel pump. It may or may not creep and for that we have a sticky thread that details all of that at the top of this forum, but I would HIGHLY SUGGEST you send that turbo to the Vendor Defiant Autospeed for porting. This would eliminate the creep posibility + he could finally measure the turbo to finally find out if it's the same/bigger/different than the VF39/43 and put that damn issue to bed. PM him and ask about pricing and maybe he'll cut you a special deal since it's a 48.

+1 for defiant
But why are you creeping on a cobb map? Have you done something else to the car? |

any internal wastegate IHI tends to get boost creep...
for the turbo upgrade you need: VF48 walbro 255... your injectors are the same size as the sti's and they need not be upgraded |

Like All4BSpinning said, all you HAVE to have is your turbo and 255lph fuel pump. <- Bare minimum. Or you can be different and get the JDM STi FPR and keep your stock FP. Some say you can "dent" your stock FPR to have better flow. You can also get injectors, larger IC, new turbo inlet, etc. Just read and get your different options. WOW! Thanks for all the replies guys... But what I was thinking was since I would have to take out the turbo to fix the creep, I might as well put in a turbo with a little more power since the removal of the turbo has to be done. Just so that one day I take out the turbo today to fix the creep and then later down the road decide to upgrade the turbo. At least right now I can save time and money on labor. But since creeping is an issue with ihi's or internal wastegates, I'm not sure what to do. Should I get the 48 ported or it doesn't need to like it's specs claims that it's prone to creep? Also, I already have in hand an 04 sti IC. So all I need is the fuel pump and am I good to go?

My mods in order since day one was - catback, spt intake ( later removed and back to just catback now), cobb ap stg 1 w/ just catback, invidia catted downpipe ( now flashed to stg 2), 04 sti IC (removed because loss of mpg and CEL, took car into subaru and they replaced the tgv), back to full turboback stg 2 without the sti IC. |

Porting and polishing will remedy boost creep but might not completely eliminate it, though it's possible it could. Are you really have THAT BIG of a problem with this?

the VF48 should be the best performing model to date since things are typically made better over time... if the hotside is ported, have them do the wastegate hole and that will help a bit... |

forget the VF anything unless its a too good to pass up deal ( $$ ) and do it right off the bat . keep in mind that any VF cant be rebuilt ( easily ) and the ones that can are not cost effective to do so . go with a basic TD05 18 G and all will be well

The VF48 is a poor mans 18g. It can be had for less $ and puts out similar #'s.

You sure right about that! I got this thing for $400 brand new! I couldn't pass it up. First thing is - I'm broke as hell but want a lil more kick, second - again, I'm broke as hell. No money to upgrade to fmic or injectors. I gotta settle for the minimum for now.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1514781 These turbos can be had for 700 Brand new. Even cheaper if you find an 08 sti owner looking to upgrade. |
