Cool So I'm moving to NC

Hey y'all!!! (gotta start getting used to that). So I landed that sweet job in North Carolina and I am moving in three weeks!!! (And yes. Russ (SteelWRX is moving with me.) I have never moved away from home before, let alone almost 1000 miles away, not including travel for my job.

So this is the part where I ask everyone out there for a little bit of help. I want to know the best way to move my shiznit there, as well as little tips y'all might have

I am also in need of some simple home furnishings... If you (or someone you know) has some decent furniture that is up for grabs, let me know. I plan on refinishing some of my stuff up here, so I'm not against doing that if needed.

If you don't know of any free/cheap furniture for the taking, does anyone know where I can get some??? I'm very poor right now, but once I get down there I'll be all set I just need to get started.

Thanks!!!

Salvation Army. My entire apartment has been furnished by that place. Just make sure you clean everything thoroughly before using.

NC has a lot of habitat for humanity stores. Stuff is super cheap and half the time brand new.

Which area are you going? I imagine somewhere in the Piedmont Triad, I am originally from around the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, so there are lots of ways to live cheap.

Congrats on the job and good luck with the move!

Congrats Amanda, is it Charlotte? If so you're close to http://usgpe.com/, I heard they're hiring you and Russ will love it. Roads are nice also for your cars, not like here in north east.

When I moved for work I went to a place that had most of what I was looking for and offered a multi item purchase. Basically buy all the items you will need but get a pretty hefty discount in the process.

Hopefully your new job is helping with the relocation, that always makes it easier. If you are in need of furniture and dont mind bringing it with you my girlfriend and I just moved into a house together. We have duplicates of nearly everything. They're taking up my garage space and thus leaving my car out in the snow . Let me know what you are looking for. I'll see if I have it and we can work out a deal.

Congrats! Enjoy the weather, and if you have dogs or cats PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put flea and tick meds on them right before you move- NC has tons of both.

I would avoid moving anything and everything unless you really need it. Get new/used/Salvation Army/Craiglist once you get down there.

Yeah decided to get rid of everything I have *hint hint*, pack my car to the brim and call it good. I will be living a couple miles from a Target... so I think I'll be all set.

Only two more weeks!!

You'll be back, just like so many other people who move away from New England and then realize how much they miss living here.
