Car: 2004 WRX Sedan
Miles: 113,950
Tuner: Paul at Yimi Sport Tuning
Target Boost: 19.25 tapering to 18.5
Output: 291WHP, 266TQUE
Gas: California 91 (Knock)Tane

Relative Mods:
Blouch 16G-XT-R
Deatchswerks 650cc
Walbro Fuel Pump
Invidia Catless DownPipe
Invidia Catless UpPipe
STi Intercooler
AEM Cold Air Intake
Perrin Turbo Inlet
GrimmSpeed Lightweight Crank Pulley
COBB Electronic Boost Control Solenoid
Samco Intercooler Hoses

So today was finally the day I had my Turbo, Injectors, Pump, and Intake installed/tuned... This car is amazing. I have completely re-fallen in love with this vehicle. It's running smoother/stronger than it ever has. I thought maybe with an increase in power i'd lose some comfort but that was the farthest thing from the truth. I must give Paul at Yimi MAD PROPS for his time and skill. This car gets on the throttle and delivers smooth power throughout every gear.

I'm sure the Turbo and other mods helped with the power but i'm honestly more impressed with how SMOOTH the car feels. After getting a (poor) COBB tune last august i have to say the transformation is night and day. This morning the car ran rough and sluggish. After leaving Yimi Tuning's shop it's running flawlessly packed with power.

As for anyone researching/looking into getting a new turbo.... IF you have a 2.0L motor and do not buy the 16GXTR you deserve a big slap in the face. This is HANDS DOWN the best turbo i've ever seen on our smaller motors. It's the dividing factor between good and GREAT. Instant spool to throw you back into your seat with enough up top to keep it pulling hard through 4th gear. It's the perfect combo.

Not really. lol I just wanna see how quickly these XT-R's spool up on the street. I have a FMIC small 16g car that looks like it spools quicker than every 16g XT-R I see.... It (small 16G) doesn't hold as well up top (as your XT-R) i don't imagine, but Its not too terribly bad between the two...

What were your previous mods? Stage 2 OTS map? I'm considering this turbo or the 16G-Xt and wondering how the low end torque is compared to the td04.

Previous mods are in the link at the bottom of the original post.

The low end is lightning. You hit the gas and the car just moves. This is THE turbo for the 2.0L

I'm assuming this is the 8cm hotside with 2.4" inlet, is that correct?

By looking at your torque curve and my torque curve, they're about the same tq per RPM until yours stops and mine keeps going. My turbo is a 20g on a stock internal 2 liter. Yes, more boost than you and more power, but as a whole, low end torque is identical. How can this be "THE turbo for the 2.0L"?

Not knocking your car, turbo, tuner, setup, etc... I just continue to be unimpressed with this turbo personally... Transient boost response may be better with your turbo but even if it is, this 20G makes more than enough power to make up for it in a big way....

I'm not saying this is THE turbo for power, never once said that actually. In terms of numbers yes its still a 16g, in terms of response and feel of the car it is my favorite.

This statement kind of implied it though:

I mean, it's hard not to interpret that as saying the 16GXTR is THE turbo for a 2.0L. So no, you didn't say those exact words, but it isn't really a stretch to come to that conclusion from what you did say.

Ooooookay. Im not trying to be an ass but I don't see how me saying this is THE turbo means you'll get huge numbers. Choosing the right turbo doesn't mean getting the biggest numbers possible. Hell if thats what you want I suggest everyone go out and pick up a 35R. You'll get m@d hp brah.

I implied that this is THE turbo based on the facts that: It's safe on a stock 2.0L. It spools rather quickly for our smaller motors. And it FEELS smooth.

I apologize but sometimes I forget that the only thing people care about here is that XXXWHP number.

Forget drivability and reliability!!

See, that's just it- that turbo spools only as fast as my 20g and makes less power. So the turbo has zero advantage in spool/low end torque and is at a disadvantage when it comes to overall power. Its a lose lose situation when compared to other turbos.
As for drivability/reliability, it all comes down to the tune and owner precaution/maintenance.

You made a statement that people should be physically harmed if they don't purchase this turbo. This is a very strong statement. I'm not sure how you can think that people who decided not to purchase your chosen turbo would not react swiftly and strongly to refute such a strong statement.

I don't think anyone has argued about huge numbers. Dux has always brought spool into it as well. A turbo is a balance of response and power, I don't think this turbo, as presented in this thread, has demonstrated any kind of major advantage in that department, but not many do. Physics is a bitch like that.

Hey great numbers. Was this a conservative tune? I see your running less than 20psi. I am soooo torn between this and a 18g xt

What does "safe on a stock 2.0l mean"?

Its not an I.E.D.

Everyone has their own preference I guess. For me personally I love the car/tune/turbo exactly how it is.

Okay dude it's a joke. To clear things up I'm NOT going to "physically harm" someone who doesn't buy this turbo. Wtf?? I like the turbo, I love the tune. Do what you want I'm simply posting what I did and how I feel about it.

Nobody is trolling, to state flat out that 16gxt is "THE TURBO FOR THE 2.0L" is baseless, a lie, and just dumb. Stating that it is "safe" for a 2.0l makes no sense.

Based on all these "conservative tunes" every turbo should be "safe"....too dumb.

Enjoy your setup, i am just no impressed with the power that thing put out.

Public forum, you posted, my oppinon....nothing more or less.
