I'd say about 3 or 4 pounds for the upper and lower pieces. I am currently planning to make this whole thing from fiberglass and if that works out, carbon. Should be a while before I get to it though.

why don't you go easy on yourself and put spectre covered filter in line with some tubing that goes into the fender and pulls air from behind the foglight, or better yet do that with a large hks funnel on the end, thats what I'm planning on doing with my bugeye anyways.

maybe putting in a little clef area to block the water and allow air to pass, like the stock snorkel but smaller?

Not a bad idea. I will consider doing this on the next version.

Washed the car today and finally got around to posting pictures from above:

I came across a fabricator on HT today that posted this picture of a setup he did on a Subaru and then stumbled across this thread. Pretty neat/simplified version of what you did, granted the turbo location really helped him out. Water also seems like it would be a problem with this setup, but it doesn't necessarily seem like a car I would be driving in the rain much anyway lol.

That is a nice setup in the picture EJMFAB.

Quick update: No issues with snow as of yet. Not a great deal of snow here aside from occasional few inches of powder though.

Thats my car, Colin did the welding on the intake box and catch tank. Figured there was that rowdy hood scoop there, might as well use it for something.

Thanks!

McRussellPants, Does your setup seal against the hood?

If there is enough interest I may start a vendor account and do a batch of these in both aluminum and an affordable ABS/Acrylic plastic. I'm currently looking for a larger shop space with heat and power that will allow me to produce a few products.
Please notify me via PM if interested.

This is just a feeler at the moment.

Thumbs up

Nice idea well executed. I wonder if fitting the inside with some type of vortex generators would increase the flow by speeding up the air that passes through.

Project came out awesome. I'm discouraged by the HP gain per degree in intake temp drop that engineers will tell you is feasible. It's really hard to make a big difference in HP with a tiny bit colder air... So I have little faith in your but dyno. but nice welds and stuff, I'm sure what you did only helped...

I understand your doubts about temperature vs power (worth the cost/effort I'm sure). Just keep in mind that temperature controls under the hood have more to do with power consistency and power band rather than peak power. Besides, I never mentioned anything about an increase in power.

The peak power and torque are most likely unchanged, but what was immediately notable was turbo spool and consistency of power delivery. I am in the process of getting data on temperatures and pressure with and without the system. I met with an engineer this morning and was discussing theory and acquiring a data acquisition system for this project.

Wow man, very nice, and good idea. GM uses something similar to that for the old F-Body LS1 SS Camaros.

Looks solid though!

very nice! good job
if you're still searching for sealing, look at mcmaster's website! lol they have almost everything you'll ever need :P
I'm planning to do something similar this summer, i was going to go with aluminium, but after doing projects in carbon fiber, i'll probably go with that... only thing is that right now i think there is a shortage...

I'm still not decided whether i want it completely sealed or not... i fear it might trap too much humidity...

I actually did just that a few weeks ago. I found several different types and sizes of gasket material. Of course I ordered several types and found one that works quite well.

There is a members journal available for this car on RS25.com: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f145/t153...dventures.html

This summer we will be doing an overhaul on the car and making some changes to things.

There is enough of an opening at the bottom to allow rain and some airflow out. The engine takes in enough air to make a nice low pressure zone within the box- especially at WOT. The design works very well. I plan to make some finishing touches to it very soon though.

This is very helpful. I've been wanting to do this for a while now and this looks like the best way of doing it. Thanks!
