Default 5x100 vs 5x114.3

im debating as to whether or not i want to switch to 5x114.3 as it allows for more wheel choices and ive heard the wheel bearing design is alot better...

what do you all think?

if you got $1500 to spend just to have a 'better' wheel selection, go for it.

not worth it since the pre-08s cant really take WIDE rims anyway... so why bother. save the $$ and get the 09 STI.

Your options arent as good with 5-114.3 (if you are running four pots or brembos) because of very high offset.

We've sold quite a few sets of 18x9 +29 to pre-08 STI owners.

Whats your idea of "wide"?

I pieced together mine for a lot cheaper than that

Hubs: $400
Used 06 rotors: $50
6gun adapter: $80
I bought new coilovers but you can get stock strut/springs for like $200
05+ STi bbs's: 450 with tires

Selling all my old stuff
Just the 04 bbs rims: $750
all 4 hubs: $300
Gave the spring/struts away but you can get $250 easy for them if there not blown

It didnt cost too much, and the benefits greatly outweigh the work it takes to get it all together

its alot cheaper if u already have a STi. for us WRX owners we have to worry abt brakes, rear end/axles etc......

That's only 1" further out than 8.5 ET48's. A rolled/pulled sedan has a lot of fender space and adding in a small amount of camber takes care of the rest if it's needed.

x9 +43 with 1/4" spacer is pretty much the upper limit... (at least for a 245/40)

Usually, people do the 05 upgrade for the better bearings/hubs b/c they track or autox a lot and are tired of pad knockback, correct?

If that's the goal, then it makes $$-sense to just upgrade vs. buying a whole STi just to cure pad knockback.

If you -just- want 5x114.3's, have your stock hubs redrilled for -way- less $$.

Wow, the amount of misinformation in this tread is amazing!

First:
WRXs need R180s (or R160s with custom hybrid axles: wrx inside and STi outer CV and axle stud) to run the rear STi 5x114.3 knuckles and hubs.

Second:
Please search for 6Gun or posts by javid in the suspension forums. I have posted tons of info, parts, reasons, ect.

I need to write a FAQ....
