I want SOMETHING that resembles an SVX.... (Yes I know, I'm old school)... Give it either a large displacement H-6, or develop me a H-10 (in short, something with a very exotic sound)... Naturally aspirated, 6 speed gearbox, leather, SatNav, and everything else... Most importantly though it MUST have the styling. It has to be something that 10 years from now, people will still turn as you drive by and go "damn, what the hell was that?".... I STILL get those reactions when I drive around in my SVX, which is 11 years old now... It still makes me feel like a 10 yearold kid when I get into it too

SOA should also bring in the forester STI .. SOA is going to have to start steping up the game due to mazda and acura having turboed SUV's now. I think this would be a great way to get performance orenitated folk into the forester. just my 2 cents

Press Release:

SUBARU SHOWCASES TWO NEW FORESTER SPORTS MODELS AT SEMA SHOW

Forester Sports 2.5 XT Adds VDC Stability Control
Unique, Sporty Styling and Exclusive Interior Features
Enhanced Audio with Available Satellite Radio

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 31, 2006 - Subaru of America, Inc. is showcasing two new versions of its All-Wheel Drive 2007 Forester compact SUV at the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. The 2007 Forester Sports models combine new, more powerful styling with exclusive interior features and enhanced standard equipment. The Forester Sports 2.5 XT adds to that the 224-horsepower intercooled turbocharged Boxer engine from the 2.5 XT Limited model.

With more aggressive styling, the new Forester Sports models are distinguished from their siblings by a new front bumper and unique black mesh grille. For a sleeker profile, the standard roof rail crossbars have been deleted on the Forester Sports models, but remain available as an accessory. The Forester Sports 2.5 XT in addition features standard 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Forester Sports models feature exclusive anthracite black fabric upholstery. An automatic climate control system replaces the manual climate control system that is standard on the regular Forester 2.5 X model. The Sports models' 120-watt AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer will play MP3/WMA CDs. Also an upgrade over the regular 2.5 X model, this audio system also features SIRIUS***174; Satellite Radio Capability and a new auxiliary audio jack to connect iPods and similar music players.

All Subaru models come standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a significant all-road, all-weather traction advantage over competitors that offer front-wheel drive as standard and make All-Wheel Drive an extra-cost option. Four-wheel independent suspension and variable-ratio, variable-power assisted rack-and-pinion steering help make Forester models equally adept at managing twisty back roads and absorbing off-pavement ruts and bumps.

All Forester models feature as standard equipment front seat head/chest side-impact airbags, four-wheel ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), cabin air filtration system, power windows, mirrors and door locks, and a remote keyless entry system. Versatility is ensured by 30.7 cubic feet of carrying space behind the rear seat, which expands to 68.6 cu. ft. when both rear seatbacks are folded.

Legendary Subaru Performance
The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine that powers the Forester Sports 2.5 X is among the most powerful in its displacement category, with 173 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 166 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. The i-Active Valve Lift system helps to ensure responsive performance at all engine speeds.

The turbocharged/intercooled 2.5-liter engine in the Forester Sports 2.5 XT produces 224 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 226 lb.-ft. of peak torque at just 3,600 rpm. The functional hood scoop, a telltale sign of every turbo Subaru model, provides a stream of fresh air to the engine-mounted intercooler. The Active Valve Control System variable valve timing technology optimizes the engine's volumetric efficiency and performance at all engine speeds. When equipped with the standard 5-speed manual transmission, the Forester Sports 2.5 XT can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under six seconds. The turbo engine meets the strict Tier 2 Bin 5 Low Emissions Vehicle II (LEV II) certification for 2007.

Three Different Types of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
In all Forester models equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission, a viscous coupling locking center differential built into the transmission case divides engine power 50:50. Wheel slippage at one set of wheels causes more power to shift to the opposite set, ensuring that the wheels with the best traction receive more power.

In the Forester Sports 2.5 X equipped with the 4-speed electronic direct control automatic transmission, an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch actively manages power distribution based on acceleration, deceleration and available traction.

The Forester Sports 2.5 XT with the optional 4-speed direct control automatic transmission is the first Forester model to use the advanced Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The VTD system is also used in the Impreza***174; WRX***174; Limited model equipped with the optional automatic transmission. The VTD system uses a planetary gear-type center differential that splits the power 45:55, with the rear-wheel bias enhancing handling agility and the performance-driving feel. An electronically controlled continuously variable hydraulic transfer clutch controls power distribution between the front and rear wheels in response to driver input and driving conditions.

The Forester Sports 2.5 XT with automatic transmission is also the first Forester model equipped with Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), an advanced stability system that controls VTD All-Wheel Drive operation and integrates an electronic 4-wheel traction control system (TCS). A viscous limited-slip rear differential directs power to the rear wheel with the best traction.

We already have that, it's called a Forester XT and it smokes damned near every other SUV out there (Cayenne Turbo S and Hemi Jeep are faster but a buttload more $$$)

-> Hi SOA/FHI, ever since I owned a Subaru back in 2005 (2004 WRX wagon), I was puzzled about the uniqueness of your brand and it grew on me really fast. Now as an owner of the 2006 WRX wagon, I'm beginning to be a brand-loyal customer of yours, but there are issues that needs to be addresed as the years gone by and the competitions are getting even fiecer. Never mind about Toyota, MBZ because they're just that, BORING. What it needs to be looked out is Mazda in which is tageting companies like your performance oriented mantra. Car's like the overhyped Mazdaspeed3 is taking a toll on your performance-spec WRX, and we all know that your Legacy 2.5GT Spec.B whooped the Mazdaspeed6 hands down so lets not think about that, just the MS3 only.

-> Based on my experieces on both WRX's made me realised the limitations on what you have engineered on the wagon/'s. I personally tested my wagons in both twisty canyon roads and top-end highway runs. I was both glad and dissapointed that I have experienced on those sessions. And I also realised that the WRX sedan and WRX wagon are two completely different animals! First, the wagon doesn't have that flaired fenders (as result with wider track for better handling potential), and the sedan has the aluminum lower A-arm while the wagon doesn't made me one dissapointed dude. But on the upside, is that the wagon has the better weight distribution (closer to 50/50) compared to the sedan. (:

-> I have some suggestions/comments on your Subaru's current to future lineup, that me help you guys to compete with the likes of Toyota, Mazda, Honda, and Nissan or maybe BMW, Infiniti, Audi, and MBZ.

Impreza - Needs to have a telescopic steering wheel, a colapable 60/40 rear seats on non-performance models, and better sound system on higher models.

C= Coupe; S= Sedan; W=Wagon

1.5i [2WD] (S & W) - "You have to sacrifice something to earn more". Well this the point of having a FWD budgetized version of your (now popular) Impreza. This model can square-off directly against Hyundai's Accent and Toyota's Yaris Sedan's. But the engine will be the 110hp version from the 1.5R AWD. I know that this will break your rules on AWD on the entire range.

1.5R [AWD] (S & W) - A cheaper alternative to the Suzuki SX4? Sure, why not?

2.0R [AWD] (S & W) - This model is the direct rival to the Caliber R/T with AWD, and most FWD Compact sedans.

2.5i [AWD] (C, S & W) - Mostly just like the current model.

2.5i Limited [AWD] (S & W) - All the features on the WRX Limited (leather, moonroof, heated seats, Navi, and tinited windows) are featured on this model minus the turbo.

2.5R [AWD] (C, S & W) - This model will get a higher-spec 2.5L N/A engine (est. 190-210hp), stiffer suspension, a little more agressive bodystyle (just like the the 1999 2.5RS look), and WRX wheels. A good solid competitor to VW GTI, Cobalt SS S/C, and Civic Si.

WRX [AWD] (C, S & W) - This model SHOULD surpass the current model exponentially. Eliminate that agonizing bodyroll, 250W sound system (please make the subwoofer standard), raise the top speed around 155mph, make the boost gauge standard so people will know that this car has a turbo built-in, scrap the Limited model there is no point to it, and PLEASE don't differentiate their body style as much as the current model (put that hatch vs. trunk debate aside) anymore like the wider track and flaires from the sedan.

WRX TR [AWD] (C & S) - A combination of the current model and the ones above, you get the idea.

WRX Spec-RA [AWD] (C & S) - STi-specs (like brakes) without the STi power, roof-vent, no stereo, A/C optional.

WRX STi [AWD] (C, S & W) - PLEASE you got to have a wagon version on this one!!! All the JDM parts available on a left hand drive package, and a 350W sound system.

WRX STi Limited [AWD] (S) - Basically a carryover on the 2007 model.

WRX STi Spec-C [AWD] (C, S & W) - WRX Spec-RA but now with more powerful STi-spec engine (maybe +60hp on top of the regular STi), optional WRX sound system, a bit more raw compared to the regular STi.

STi S-20X [AWD] (S) - Just like the models that we've been oogling oversea's that is now available in very limited numbers.

STi Premium Sports Coupe 25B [AWD] (C) - If FHI can't get the Prodrive's magnificent sports coupe the P2, then why not make a scary coupe to compete with the likes of V8 M3, RS4, and even the R36 GT-R.

^ That it for my Impreza suggestion, I'll continue this with the Forester and Legacy comments soon. (:

(Dang, this may be one of my longest post ever!!)

TVB, I think you've got WAY to many models of Impreza. Suby doesn't have the $$$$ to produce all of those and the 3-5 different engines.

The 1.5i will never happen here, they spent to long pushing that everything they make has AWD.
The 1.5R has a chance if the can get the MPG at 35-38 and keep it priced competively.
2.0 is doubtfull.
I also doubt that they would make 3 versions of the "RS".
As far as the WRX Spec-RA, WRX STi Spec-C, and the STi S-20X I think the S-20x has the best shot only because I don't think most people would spend more money on a comfort stripped higher hp version (Spec RA and Spec C).

Are you listening Subaru?

TOUGH PAINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your paint is the worst in the industry in my opinion. My friend's 05 STi with 7k on the odometer already has rock chips. We need paint that compares to that of Toyota, Honda and Nissan.

A lower profile Impreza with a wider wheel stance.

HID's and up are a must

Better gauge cluster.

60/40 split rear seats in ALL models. A4s and S4s have it, why can't we?

Tinted windows standard. If I am spending $38K on an STi, it better have tinted windows.

Black interior option in STi's just like JDM.

JDM intercooler sprayer standard

Much improved sound system. The ones you guy's are giving us sound like crap. 350w atleast. Nissan and Rockford Fosgate made a very nice system.

Relocated Tweeters. Tweeters in the door isn't a good place although it works. In the pillar or on the dash near the winshield works a lot better and we won't be losing all of the sound when we roll down the window.

A dark blue color option.

Whatever options that the JDM is offering, give us too.

^ Heh, heh, I know! I just followed all the guys from the previous posts and accumulated it all right here. Plus some guys would like a Coupe to return, I like the wagons to have a more aggressive stance and a STi model. (:

-> What you guys think about my concept of the 25B? (:

From my other thread

Pastrana has taken the RA championship, why not use that as a marketing tool to release a Travis Pastrana special edition STi?

WRB only
Gold wheels only ( rally inspired design )
Blacked out STi limited console
Blacked out fabric interior with #199 sewn into headrest
STi limited lip spoiler
Short throw w/ Ti knob
Limited # plaque
Limit it to 199 units

Am I on to something, or am i out in left field here?

I have a feeling that after the all new 2008 Impreza, 2009 all new Forester and the refreshed Tribeca/Legacy, Subaru will have a better hold on the current market standards.

You are very right, except the facelifted Leg/Tribeca/OB will arrive in 08, not 09 . Right now we just have stale product, plain and simple.

What is refreshing, though, is that the Forester (for example) can still run with the redesigned competition... I see it every day at the dealership. If a customer test drives a Forester they usually much prefer it to the CRV and RAV, the only ones who really don't go gaga are the customers looking for larger interiors.

I couldn't agree more! My '06 WRX this past month was bombarded by falling acorns. The hood and roof look like they've been caught in a hail storm.

I'd like to see Subaru use the same dent-resistant material for body panels that Saturn uses.

I wish I was. My car's hood and roof is pock-mocked with acorn dings. It all happened within the last month or so. I live in an area with a lot of trees.

So, yeah, I would love to see stronger and more ding-resistent body panels being used by Subaru.

I'll take the weight, not the dings, thank you... This is not going to be a one-time event for me, unless I move-which ain't goin' to happen soon. It's going to happen every year when the trees drop their acorns.

How much more (if any) do the dent-resistent panels weigh that are on Saturns?

Bob

Subaru has very very thin sheet-metal, Subaru needs to put stronger/thicker metal on their cars. The doors are prime example, if you lean on them they will dent, along with the fenders... Paint is another issue.

Legacy Wagon STI with 6spd manual transmission (but with real overdrive 6th gear). 300hp Impreza STI motor, Brembo BBK, Bilsteins, DCCD, Recaro seats, McIntosh stereo.

No navigation!

That's all I want from Subaru.
