Default Help! Random oil pan valve leaking...

So my valve covers were leaking a bit of oil so I thought I would get the covers changed and be good to go. My mechanic instead found the real problem which was a small, rubber like valve that was completely saturated in oil and leaking from the rear of the oil pan.

He mentioned it is an aftermarket pan most likely for turbos but the thing is its a 2.5... Purchased the car as is and previous owner is non-responsive.

I added a picture. Any help, diagnosis, part suggestions will be appreciated!!!! Thanks for your time!

Looks like someone brazed a drain tube or something in there. Definitely not OEM. I would go to your local parts store with that leaky cap and replace. Maybe get a couple extras and change them every oil change to be safe.

If you're feeling really ambitios have it welded closed, or get yourself a good used pan for cheap and replace that one you've got.

Yea, definitely not OEM. Maybe I'm not seeing that correctly, but it looks too high on the pan to be a drain. It does look like the return line for an aftermarket turbo kit.

Have you taken the rubber cap off to see what's underneath? Is it just a barb fitting? The right size plug and some permanent (bearing retaining) Loc-Tite could be the answer.

Strange to be sure.

Thanks for the responses. Do you think i can drive ~100 miles on this? Found a cheap used pan online and my buddy in the next town over offered to help. reason i ask is the rubber plug is pretty squishy and soaked completely. but being a little higher up on the pan i think it should be fine..

There is some pressure in there. It's a risk, but how much is anyone's guess. I'd spend the $2 on a new cap until you get the pan replaced. Much less hassle if that cap should completely fail... Of course if it's been leaking for the last 6 months, you probably fine to go another 100 miles :P

it looks like somebody started to do a turbo conversion in it but gave up at the oil return line. That's what it looks like to me but don't quote me on that. Either way, get a new oil pan. Good Luck

Is that the same pan you've got on there. The 2.5 and 2.0 pans (what is in that link) are different?

What model/year is the car?

Then that pan should be good to go.

You can always check here to verify the pan you've got... LINK HERE.
