limp mode on V4
so basically after driving for a period of time, usually 1/2 hour, the car goes into limp mode. doesn't matter if i drive it hard or not, boost level, engine temp or outside air. Does it if I'm going down the highway or around the city. I get no CEL. If I shut it down and restart runs like top till a 1/2 hour later
on another note about once a month I'll be crusing under no load and get a CEL. The moment it drops back to idle the light goes away specs: 98' V4 STi RA 94 pump gas perfect power 6 (have yet to mess w/ the settings, so everything is running stock)

I had the exact same thing happening with my v1. Turns out it was because the speed sensor was not hooked up to the correct ECU pin. Has it been doing this ever since the swap, or did it just start recently?

nope, just started recently...about a month ago
Pretty sure the speed sensor is working seeing as how i've never been able to go above 110. Although kinda fuzzy on how that works seeing as how i have the oldschool mechanical speedo. Figure it's got something to do w/ those 3 or 4 wires that go into the trans, but I was under the asumption that they were there for the back up lights. I can monitor my maf & cam sensor, there doesn't seam to be a deviation between when it runs good vs when it limps around. and even if they were failing because of heat, once I restart it and get on it 20 seconds later the wires would still be hot, yet it wont go into limp for the same amount of time. at 1st I was thinking it was something in the ECU, running good untill the car heats up, but it shows i'm running in the mid 80's once I reset the ECU and drives fine for a while. |

The 4 wires that go into the transmission are for the reverse lights, and the neutral switch. If you did your swap correctly, you can go to the subaru dealer and see if they'll let you use the Select Monitor. Believe it or not, The USDM Cartridges will read the JDM ecu's. That way you can tell if your speed sensor is working, or if the neutral switch is wired correctly... All little issues that some people have. The select monitor will only work if you wired the diagnostic terminal in how it should be. |

seeing as how my car didn't start out w/ abs, and the airbag module is removed, would that possibly help cause my issue? |

You'd set it up for whatever ECU you've got in the car.
Orange = anything up to 1997 Blue = 98-2000 Gray = 01-04 Pink = 01-06 The dealer will most likely have the pink one. It took us a few months to get the pink one because they had to supply all of the dealers with one, before anyone else could order. |
