Second I have been building custom intake for my car using an '99 intake, '04 WRX MAF housing *"Had to fabricate a different hole out of plexiglas for the sensor because the hole on the original housing is 1.4" and our MAF sensors need a 1" hole", and some various silicone tubing/bends. So far on my intake I have been getting a check engine light that causes my cruise control and traction control to flash. I'm thinking I may have to go into the dealership and get my ECU re-flashed.
The ECU reflash isn't going to help your problems. While I believe intakes don't harm the car, yours does. You probably don't have the correct placement of the MAF. Your homegrown approach is risky. Just go buy an intake.

Either you're silly, or you're a troll.

No, the stock airboxes have been shown to provide ample flow for even WRX's and STI's. The setup is quite similar to the 2.0i

No CELs are not common on intake installs. If it does give you a CEL then take it off your car. The reflash you're thinking of is TUNING the ECU to maximize the performance of the intake. Not reflash the stock ECU. I would do more homework if you plan on doing any of the above. I have to ask, how do you plan on doing it yourself?

You'll spend more on the car to make it faster than it would be to just buy a WRX. Taking an econobox and having high ambitions will burn a hole in your wallet with not proportional gains. Not trying to squash your hopes and dreams, just giving you the reality of the matter.

*Edit, I think I'm feeding a troll.

Yes, The image with the intake on the car is before I fabricated the plate for the sensor. The Second is the MAF housing, plate, and the sensor being bonded with silicone.

Looks awesome but it isn't going work on the NA FB20 motor with the MAF sensor. Go to the NA threads on the forums and read up on the CAI/SRI threads and you will learn that the 'Hybrid' mod is the only way it will work right. Hope Williarty isn't reading this...lol

*PHEW* Not a troll! Vacuum leaks in the intake path can cause a CEL. Scan your code.

The problem with intakes is the MAF scaling. The ecu thinks it is ingesting a certain amount of air based on the stock intake plumbing. If you modify it it is likely flowing a different amount of air. The ECU needs to be re-scaled for the new air flow rate. Otherwise your car could be totally confused as to why the AFR is not behaving the way it was expecting. This could result in a too rich or a dangerous too lean condition.

Thanks guys, I am much more informed on my intake project thank before. I will defiantly be doing more research into MAF Scaling and leaks. When I read my codes I did have a system lean error code so that will do it. It is all just a learning experience, hopefully I don't do anything that will lead to permanent damage

As for my Strut Bar, I ordered it through the dealership. I believe the product code is SOA8431130.

Yeah, I got mine for about $230. It took just about a day to ship to the dealership. When I went to order it, the parts department said it was new to the SPT catalog.

Have you tried getting a MAF housing that can be welded to the intake pipe? That would help with any leaks if the silicone is not working

No, I haven't yet. I will defiantly look into it after I try putting some high heat proof sealant on all the connection points and if it doesn't work.

I got most of the holes sealed it seems. When I first started up the car I got just under 2000 rpms, took it around to see if there where any holes. I heard some hissing. Turned it off checked the piping and it started up at just under 1000 rpms. So, there's defiantly a lot more work to do.

Just be aware that if you have engine problems it won't be covered under warranty.

or just make them yourself. if you search around you'll find the how to. i was planning on this at some point, not pink but same difference. Once you get the badge off, goof off takes the paint right off the inside of the emblem leaving the chrome stars and a clear background ready for your paint of choice. i'm assuming the 2012 emblem is able to be modified like this as well.
