Does anyone know if a locksmith/dealership needs anything to program a transponder? There is a number written on it but I'm not sure what that is for.

I think the car just learns the transponder on its own when put in program mode. And the only code you need to to program the lock/unlock functionality. Anyone agree with me?

Am I to understand that if you have a 2011+ wrx/sti you can use this key (57497AJ10A ) and not have to replace the security box?

Just did this mod yesterday and it turned out pretty well. I used the valet key since I don't care about locking my glove box.

Great work Ben! Thanks.

I work at a dealership and we don't have a laser cutter either, we order the keys through Subaru. We were told the laser cutting machine was somewhere in the neighborhood of $10k to purchase. Thats a lot of keys to cut to make that back.

On a side note, for the 2011 legacy donor key, all I would be using from that would be the button portion, correct?

Definitely going to do this with my 08 n/a. I was thinking about going with an 10 American keyless box and 2010 American legacy key. I dont think there should be any problems mounting this in my Canadian model car.

Are you currently taking orders on the flip key, and would you be willing to preload it with proper internals? Your pics look great BTW.

For those of you in California... (SoCal)

Visit this guy to have your 'laser cut' key duplicated.... He did mine and it works perfect- works on the glove box too.

Going back to the keysmith tomorrow to get it re-cut. Looks a bit off. The blade wobbles a lot I should've noted to the keysmith . The blade doesn't stay put unless I put some force ...
