Phenomenal model builder, 1:24 & 1:12 Scale cars and bikes.
I found this site while looking for pics of Nissan skylines, and was blown away. This guy even builds custom body parts, exhaust systems, wheels, intercoolers, etc. He really is one of the best builders I’ve ever seen!
WTLW, DIAF. I searched. http://www.spc.org.uk/index.html

Those are sick! It must take tons of time to finish quality work of this magnitude.

While they are very nice models, I don't think he is one of the best ones out there. It appearst to mainly be stock builds. Automotive forums has a very good forum where you can see some truly amazing model cars built by very good model builders. It does take a long time to build model cars, probably 20 hours or so for a quality out of the box if you really take your time. I could see it taking much less if you got an easy to make model though (i.e. not a race car which needs 4 hours of decal work)

Dude machines his own two-piece rotors for a 1:12 scale Skyline

Okay I didn't those pics...yes, yes he is one of the better model builders I've ever seen. I don't know why, but I always find brakes on models kits to be one of the more beautiful objects.

I've been looking at the Automotive Forums. There are some really good builders out there.
I guess what I liked about this guy was that he was making lots of the parts himself. But after looking at that forum, I agree he's not the best. But he has got to be in the top 5! Not So Ninja Edit: due to the break photos Last edited by trisk; 09-30-2005 at 06:53 PM. |

Those brakes make me think he may be actually. The Subaru and bike you show arne't really that impressive, clean builds, but those GTR brakes are masterpieces.

I have not been able to find the site again... but I once stumbled across a personal site of a guy who truely was the best model builder I had seen. He had a lot of aircraft on his site from what I remember...
Anyway, he had a 1:24 Bugeye WRX model that he hand crafted an engine for. Everything was very precise detail. He of course cut the hood so it opened and all that good stuff. |

Yeah Hiro Boy is one of the best modelers that I've seen. A lot of the parts are remade from aluminum on a lathe. Full Skyline thread...

Guys this stuff is only scratching the surface -- as spectacular as it looks When I lived in Miami, there was a small discrete "toy" store for the "Robb Report-type" of client. Miniature working model engines of all types. IIRC they were priced in the 10's of thousands. One that I saw was >$50,000...I'll see if I can dig up some pix

Remember watching a video of someone who built a fully functional (running, everything) Ferrari in his apartment. 1/12 scale? It sounded like a ferarri and the engine components (especially the sparkplugs and valvesprings) were unbeleavable.
I miss that... He may have been a little "special" tho. By may I mean most definately. |

Yeah that scale Ferrari was featured in C&D back in the 90's.
I too saw fetaures toward real model builders that craft everything from metal stock building whole functioning cars with working engines, steering, hydraulic brakes, electricals, singlans and even wiper blades and the cars ranon pump gas to boot. Every so oftenit comes up on Finer Living. Cool stuff and it costs more than some folks spend on a home to acquire a sample. - Janq |

I'm just finishing up a 1:24 Porsche GT1 Evo 1998.
There is some absolutely amazing stuff out there. (Not my work! ) I forget the exact scale or spec, but one French guy I think, build a running 1/4 size Ferrari engine. He spent something like a year tuning the exhaust to get the note just right. He wanted to quit but had too much time invested. I heard an interview with the guy which was not very interesting until the very end. The interviewer asked him what were his final thoughts. He said very slowly, "I'm... glad... it's... done." Another model anecdote: Some guy had made a very nicely detailed model of an newish McLaren F1 and somehow managed to have it in the pits at a Grand Prix. He showed it to Ron Dennis. Dennis glanced at it, frowned, looked at the guy and asked, "Why?" then turned around and pointed to the real thing, smiling. |

ahhhh hiro boy . hes a good buddy from the AF forums. that 1:12 skyline...you should see the progress threat he had going on it. half the parts on that car are machined out of aluminum on a mini lathe and milling machine. heres just some of the parts me machined for that car that i can think off the top of my head.
both turbos muffler brakes coilovers end links sway bar oil filter brake master cylinder and resivoir strut bar i know theres alot more but i cant think of it off the top of my head. i mean look at his personal 1:1 reference. he lives in toronto. http://www.nissan-skyline.org/photo-gallery/ |
