Default i came across a 6mt for cheap

i got one for $150 but its 1st gear wont engage i haven't taken it apart to figure it out yet but i was wondering how hard it is to rebuild one of these or should i just bring it to a shop and plug out the $1000. or even if any of you know someone who crashed their car and cracked the bell housing or something stupid like that where the internals would still be ok i would love to pick that up and piece one of these together.
thanks
