Default ECUFlash is not connecting to my ECU. 2002 WRX

2002 WRX,
Fellow member is helping me out with a stage 1 tune but we cannot seem to get the ECUFlash to read the ROM.

I am new to the flashing/tuning world and have gone through the FAW's and whatnot. Not saying I remember them all perfectly, but I'm just trying to get some advice or direction.

steps we have taken so far.

1. Jump the flash blocker
2. Connect the greet test wires.
3. Checked for the green test wires on passenger side. (They were connected)

Reinstalled ROMRaider, and ECUFlash after I Completely eliminated any files that had to do with it.

Restarted computer.

Downloaded and installed ECUFlash (2016 version) and RomRaider. Installed ECU definitions, and installed them into RomRaider.

Go to read rom on ECUFlash and boom.. nothing. Errors out saying it's unable to connect. And closes interface.

I am using windows vista, 32bit.

Can anyone please help us?

might be ECUTEK'd. let a tuner with ECUTEK flashing tool check your ECU.

Did you try wiggling the obd connector sometimes a thin piece of cardboard works. Does the car go into test mode regular?

What do you mean? I am using wrx02 ECUFlash automatically knows which is odd to me.. I can disconnect the cable and all my buttons grey out, but right when I plug in the cable, they allow me to attempt to connect.

Was the issue a bad connection or a bad cable?

The usb cable for sure, the best shot for open source tuning is having two parts of all when everything is right connected and you get issues the best troubleshoot options is trying every cable and connector, today I have problems with the flash of a bugeye the re flash connector was correctly connected, the diagnostics connectors (both) too but cant flash, so I try another old flash connector works great
