Default Off Road Trails In La Area????

HI THERE. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY DECENT OFF-ROAD TRAILS. THE ONE I USUALLY GO TO IS SILVERADO CANYON IN OC. BUT THEY HAVE RECENTLY CLOSED THE TRAIL FOR IMPROVEMENT.

I HEARD THAT THERE IS A TRAIL IN AZUSA. ANY OTHERS OUT THERE?

DIRT IS GOOD... WE'RE MADE FROM IT....

There's a cool area at the top of Old Topanga Canyon Road with a bunch of dirt roads

Btw hos does the WRX wagon handle in the dirt?

Is the ground clearance ok?

look for a picture of my most recent off-road misadventure...

{scoobys don't drive too well with the nose pinned against the ground and a wheel left high and dry...}

Default Here's some...

-Frazier Park and the area around Gorman (Hungry Valley OHV Park is there)
-Big Bear/Arrowhead area has lots of graded forest service roads
-There used to be some in the Santa Monica mountains, but I haven't been up there in a long time, so they might be gated now.
-Wildemar OHV park on the Lake Elsinore side of Orgega Hwy.
-The "badlands" between I-15 and I-60 south of Riverside.
-Little patches of sweet graded dirt twisties around Fallbrook (even our Porsche club runs those )

Gorman is pretty good. Close in. Get off around Hungry Valley Road I believe. It's well marked. It's a state area, all legal like. Gorman Ridge Rally I believe is run around there. The Subaru Rally Team used the area for practice in April. Actually the Rim course I belive is open as well. It would be fun to run that a moderate speed just to do it. It may have all kinds of traffic on it (bikers, hikers, jeeps etc). You need a forestry pass. Might make a neat spring outing when it all greens up.

Been to Pismo in my prerunner truck.....14" travel Bilsteins, custom leaf springs, detroit locker, etc. You can get onto the beach, stay in the area near the surf and be fine, but you'd get bored in 15 minutes. The real fun to be had is in the dunes, and they're pretty soft. If you wanna tackle it, make sure you cross the river at low tide and near the ocean (since low cars will not make it up or down the berm. When, and if you get across (full size trucks get towed outta the creek every weekend for $100 by the local monopolizing tow company), you can air down the tires and have at it.

Make sure you put a long whip flag on you car so no sand rail or truck flies over a dune and hits your car. Watch the knife edge dunes and the best way to steer out of a bowl is with you foot on the gas and a gradual swerve back down.

Never took a car out there, and have seen only a few ever get across the creek at Oceano. Might save this for a truck or something...

Pizmo is fun. I take my raptor out there. Never took the REX. I lost all the trim off the front bumber of my truck to the river gods.
Made it through. Had to replace the idler arm and pitman.

.... also Jawbone has a bunch of cool trails that go into the mountains, especially cool in the spring time with the snow.

outback, I live about 15 minutes from Azusa Canyon...To my knowledge, it's all paved...I"ve had enough of THAT fun...ONEDERER, chime in here, got any good dirt spots in our area?

If not, it'd be cool if we could organize a meet to go up to the desert and find some dry lake/smooth desert anyone up?

Wait a sec, Azusa is all paved???

I think its still all dirt and some good sized rocks where the resevoir is. I used to take the truck out there all the time and there's plenty of hard pack dirt to take the toys out there to play.

Go up the 37, and you'll see the San Gabriel rec area.....

I'd be up for it!

Well, I'm not sure if this still holds true but....
On this site, it says that Mulhulland Dr. from the 405 going west to Topanga is unpaved - "it's dirt, of the soft, powdery variety..."

I've been interested in checking this out (since I'm really close to it being at UCLA).....but, I've been really busy as of late. If anyone cares to venture up there, please chime in!

DUE TO OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO THIS THREAD I WILL LOOK INTO ORGANIZING A TRIP.
NO REAL PROMISES AS TO WHAT THE TIME FRAME WILL BE.

I SENT A COUPLE OF E-MAIL TO VARIOUS 4WD CLUBS FOR INFO.

ONE IDEA I HAD WAS POSSIBLY ORGANIZING AN OVERNIGHT TREK IN THE SPRING.

WILL POST AGAIN W/RESULTS OF E-MAILS

The majority of them are in the Barstow area. There is one location in the southeast corner of Cali

There is also a place called Los Padres National Forest
Jacinto Reyes National Forest Scenic Byway

Here is the web site...

Tell me what you think

ps. Saw the new outback sport at the Dealer today.... *sigh* come with the Fog lights grill....

I have taken our Sales Trainer out to Pismo. Actually had 3 people and luggage! My 2000 O/B auto does just fine at Pismo. Ran all the way to the south fence IN THE WIND-BLOWN SOFT STUFF. Drove around the hugh macho 4x4 over-tired campers there. Think I pissed 'em off. Anyway a Suby does just fine there. Crossed the creek numerous times, no problems. Not even close to a problem. Did a few smaller dunes at the beach side. I did not go way back off the general beach area and really get into it. Common sense, low speed (15mph speed limit)will get you most anywhere there. The beach wet sand area is hard pack, Grandma's unicyle with hard rubber tires will even work. Quick tip: Keep your windows and sunroof closed! Hose off your car ASAP when finished, drip dry. It's worth a look-see.

Default POTENTIAL TRAIL FOUND

I spent Saturday in Big Bear and I found a very promising trail

It is a trail segment on the north side of the lake. Series of trails extends for a few miles. The roads are about 1 1/2 cars wide. There is one meadow segment that had me dreaming of subbies running full bore. Didn't get to explore the whole segment but from what I saw it was good.

There is also another trail that takes you to the top of this overlook. From there you can see the whole lake of Big Bear.

I've got some pics coming.

Hey I know I dont got a impreza but you guys seem to be my only source for offroad trails. The front of my exhaust hangs down due to its size so I need a fairly flat road with little rocks as possible. If any of you guys can point me to one of the above place you mentioned above with my needs I would greatly appreciate it.
