I don't know if buying another car would make her any happier, lol.

She only drove manual in my Honda a couple times, so she doesn't really know what she's doing. My 4 puck clutch would probably embarrass a lot of seasoned WRX owners, so it wouldn't be pretty with an inexperienced driver...

I'll be interested to see how my wife does in the car when the clutch gets upgraded. She does really well with it now and actually loves to drive the car on the new suspension/turbo/etc. Almost too much...

I would think long and hard before going to a puck clutch setup. If my other setup hadn't started slipping, I would gladly take that back. We dropped the tranny at least 3 times swapping out clutch parts before I got one that worked. If you're not going for more power than you have now, I think the HD pressure plate and full face disk would work great. Feels pretty much like stock. Maybe a slightly heavier pedal, but that's about it.

That was my thinking too. I kind of want the clutch to be the weak link between the motor and tranny anyway.

Guys, I hate my ACT HDSS in the new motor. First gear shutter is a real PIA and you have to get it just right to work smoothly and I now have 1500 miles on the new motor. We tried two (2) Spec stage-2+'s and niether would work in the car, clutch would not engage.

If i was going to do it all over again I wouldnt have bought this car.

Ok Debbie Downer. Thanks for your input. I like my car. Sounds like you have something else going on IMO.

Subaru's typically are. I knew I was getting into that kind of relationship when I bought the car, but you can't find anything else that is as versatile. The motor is going to go (thanks to Subaru ringlands). BUT...it does sound like you might have some kind of fitment issue if you couldn't get two clutches to engage and you are have shaking issues out of the current. Who is doing the installs for you? </threadjack>

If the clutch isn't engaging, then it sounds like you're installing the wrong clutch. Or it's not being installed correctly. I ran the ACT HDSS for a week or two and it drove 99% exactly like stock. If you don't like the car, then it's probably best to sell it now and cut your losses. It will surely just cost you more in the future.

I've ridden in FWD and RWD cars with 4-pucks, those clutches are HARD to get the hang of, I can't even imagine one with AWD.

Its weird the clutch is engaging (the two specs did not), however if I dont get the release exactly right I get that kinda shudder. All other gears are fine anly in first, If i blip the throtle and keep the revs up not so much of a problem. The clutch(es) were professionally installed at the tuner that did the entire build. I will check forsure what clutch they put in, but I thought it was the HDSS, I know 100% it is ACT. Im going back for the final tune tomorrow so I will ask all the questions.

Thanks all.

What good timing. I was just trying to post some photos, but my site is running really slowly. I finally got a circular polarizer today, so I took some test shots of the car, and some more shots of the exhaust. I was trying to post some of them (not the ones of the exhaust), but it appears it's not working...

Oh how convenient. What finally made you buy the CP filter?

Nothing in particular. I guess maybe I'll try to do more automotive shooting. I don't see it turning into much business or anything. Mostly just curiosity.

Cool. I think it will put your pics on a whole different level now. (They are awesome to begin with) I think it made a difference for mine, and now everyone at work wants me to take pics of their car. (I'm the only one with a camera I think, so I get the job by default )

Now I need a new lens because I think my pics are not very sharp at all. Anyway, sorry for getting off topic.

At web sizes, I really don't think you're ever going to be able to see a difference in image quality in a modern lens unless it has something smudged on it. I bet I could take two shots with identical settings, one with my 70-200 f/2.8 IS, and one with my 55-250 IS and you couldn't tell the difference. If you zoomed in to 100% then you probably could, but at 800pixels I doubt it.

The real difference with a high end lens is going to be the larger aperture and faster focus. But if you're taking static car shots and have them both stopped down to the same aperture, then they'll look nearly identical at web size.

Anyways, on to my new polarizer. This animation shows the effect that the circular polarizer can have depending on how you adjust it.

I found that trying to completely kill the reflections often left very "flat" feeling shots, so I actually chose ones that had a good balance of reflections, that showed of the lines of the car well. Here's a shot:

On a 3/4 shot I think you'd have to composite two images if you really wanted to kill all of the reflections. Sometime I think I'll have to give it a shot. I can certainly see times when you would want a perfectly clean image, with no glare at all.

I think that shot looks great. The windshield is what makes the biggest difference I think. If you got rid of all the reflections and glare it just seems completely unnatural and too "processed" to me.

Typically you are looking to get rid of the window/windshield glare with the circular polarizer. As you found with using it on the body, the glare on the windows with and not on the body does not mix well.

I think I just need to take a little more time placing the car. I like how the light is hitting the curves on the body in that shot, but I don't like the reflections of the trees on the side, and on the hood. If it was a more open area I think the CP shots would look great.

You can always do multiple polarizations. Armin has a video on it somewhere. I'm sure you know but it's when you take multiple shots with the CP in different positions and then combine them and layer them in PS then use the eraser tool. Looks cool, I would like to try it when I get a tri pod.

Yeah, that's what I meant with the words after my picture in the post above. It would be easy enough to do. It would need the right location and lighting for it to look good.
