New BAJA owner!
Howdy Folks,
It might seem kinda silly for me to be down-rite giddy about this, but the wife's gonna drive our new Baja home this afternoon. Fianacing is all set, insurance is all set, all we have to do is sign the papers when she gets off work. She's so happy, I won't even have to buy supper on the way home, (well I'm hoping that I don't have to) I've been lurking in here for awhile now, everybody seems to like their Baja's. I just hope the Mrs's will let me drive her's once in a great while. If there's anything I can be of help with, just PM me, I might not get the chance to visit in here as much as I would like. Cheers, Brian McKinney Parts Manager Langston Subaru Monroeville, PA 724-325-2888 P.S. I usually frown on this BUT

Best of luck with your new Baja, Brian. This is a great forum for information and advice regarding the Baja.

Is your Baja a he or a she?

The Baja is a "he" but the "she" in the family gets to drive it. Oh well, I do get to race the company WRX, and get my pick of AWD's on bad snowy days. But just in case you want to throw some pity my way, I usually drive one of the two S10 parts trucks, one has 220,000 on it and the other only 130,000. Anyone feel bad for me yet? I DO!

I pity you only on your S10 days. How's that?
When i bought my all-silver Baja last January from Planet Subaru, it had been one of the brother's who owns the dealership's car for the past week. It had about 130 miles on it. They had a yellow, red, and black but i'm not a big fan of the two tones, apparently that brother wasn't either. Being a dealer, do you have any ideas as to whether or not there will be a hard bed top, or two, produced? The BajaT isn't going to translate into WRX popularity, but hopefully an outside vendor will make a sub-$900 one. |

bed covers
There are already some bed covers being made, and we have installed a few here at Langston. There is a Soft bed cover, and a hard lift up style, and there is also now a cap made for them.

a cap? as in a pick-up truck style cap? that will just turn the BAJA back to the outback it was?

Yep! BAJA + cap = OUTBACK
I suppose there might be some reason to put a cap on a BAJA, but I have no idea what that reason might be. Personally, I'm going with a hard cover from PendaLiner. Snug top makes one also that is a little more water resistant than Penda's. A.R.E. makes the cap ($1500 installed by supplier) The soft cover is pretty nice, but you have the typical temparture problems with a soft cover (easy to put on in the warm, a real bear to get stretched on in the cold) Cheers, Brian |

a hard bed cover would deffinatly be best, i wouldnt bother finding a cap for a BAJA i'd just buy a outback.

Only "exclusive" Soob dealer. Pittsburgh has close to 8 dealers with in 25 miles of downtown. It's a rough way to make a living!

[b]Yep! BAJA + cap = OUTBACK we're debating this issue - during our christmas journeys to visit the families, we took our dog and her cage. the cap would be nice to secure objects, like the pet carrier, that have a lot of height. my husband wants the forrester XT - i said no way - my next car is a baja-t |

Baja fares well with women, and that's true. I think it's because *some* women really don't care what the car looks like to others eyes, but rate the car on cuteness. Forester is just another small SUV, but Baja is, well, different! The wife doesn't care if the bed is much smaller than F-150, and she surely doesn't care if it had a turbo in it or not (if anything, she preferrs not to have one ). For most most men, size does matter (at least in their subconscious perceptions). I, too, was one of those men a year ago, but the wife convinced me on the styling, and I got totally sold by the dirty word "turbo." I love Forester, please don't get me wrong, but let's see - Forester XT is more expensive, no moon roof with 5MT, black/silver interior looks and feel (in my opinion) nicer than gray cloth in FXT, and FXT doesn't have a bed that I can stack up sheets of plywood, and I can just throw my muddy/snow-packed mt bike on the bed (no dirt inside, or on top, not to mention less likely to ding from oopsing your bike on the roof rack). Yup, Baja is a true sports utility vehicle.
Let me quit as I see too many my names on this board now! |

I did from Detroit auto show! I agree that I'm not sure how Honda thinks they can sell that thing. But then, Honda is very flexible in design, so who knows what the production version may look like. Much more interesting concept (ready to roll to production, as I heard) is Mitsbishi Sports Truck - that looks much better than Honda, and it actually looks very useful (only if it's not coming from Mitshu-p...). Now, Subaru may have spur another nitch competition that they can't afford of miss this out by discontinuing Baja all together (but then, it's Subaru we are talking about... ).
