Do you really need one? Are you going to be rallying with your Impreza?
There already is somewhat of a skidplate beneath our engines. That's the hunk of metal under the engine that we use as a floor jack lifting point for the front end. Why do you think you need more than that? |

While searching for curiosity reasons. I'm now more interested in light bars. 1. For addition of more lights. (like the look/functionality). 2. For somewhat protection from people backing into me while parallel parking.

Light bars that would be wired as daytime running lights?

^what? why? I would only use them in intense low light situations. depends on what lights you use but, if i were going through the trouble of installing lights i would install real bright lights. not some weak daytime running lights.

I didn't mean that the lights you install should be weak. I was asking if you would wire them to light at the same time as the DRLs, or would you wire them differently?

oh, well depends on what lights you go with, the normal is to use 50-55watts lights, thats like driving with your headlights and since most aux light are meant to scatter, those lights would shine directly into on coming traffic. some people use 100watts lights, thats light driving with your highbeams on. point is, they are meant to be wired of a switch. you wouldn't want someone driving with these lights on if you were the on coming traffic or the guy in front.

just dirt road stuff. nothing major but the skidplate on my last car proved useful. also driving in deep snow you can't tell what's under there sometimes. those gorilla bars look ok but i'm not really looking for all that, just the plate. thanks for the help erbody. |

you really can't go very slow uphill in these cars. it would stall. that hill is pretty steep, and only accounts for a tiny part of a normal dirt road situation. not like i'm just jammin around like a dumbass the whole time! notice the passengers had to get out for the uphill... not exactly the strongest point of the drivetrain, the low end. either way they're little scrappy subarus, not rock crawlers.
i do lots of rock crawling in my toyota. there are low gears, they're great. totally different scenario. you guys need to loosen up |

I do agree though, I would be interested in a skid plate. I already hit pretty hard on my friends horribly kept driveway (hill + washes/ruts out with every rain). Add in snow/ice and the skid plate makes sense.
Just watched Kenny's video, the friend's driveway looks similar to that hill, only maybe steeper..... |

seems legit, and for about $200 shipped seems like a great value. and then there's http://www.gorillaoffroadcompany.com/product-list.cfm but seems like overkill. I already have tube bumpers and sliders on the other car although he is making them for older subies, which are ready to get thrashed anyway. |

Does anyone have a lightbar out for our cars yet? Has anyone made their own yet?

The lightbar looks awesome but kind of excessive for city driving.

Update, just traded emails with Paul of Get-Primitive and they do make a front skidplate for our Impreza 2.0L and the current rear plate offering will fit also. Next paycheck I will order the 1/8" front and 3/16" rear set.

Really? Great news! Let us know how it fits. I still need to order my mud flaps, then probably this.

The front is offered in 1/8" or 3/16" thickness, the rear is only in 3/16"...
