not again..

but here's the short..
unequal length..the primarys are not the same length.
the tubing from exhaust port is a different length.

equal length..just what the name imples..
the tubing from each exhaust port is the same length.

So I have had the following headers personally.
GT-Spec V2 (unequal length)
GP Moto (equal length)

the unequal gives you the exhaust note of a boxer somewhat.
the equal makes sound of nothing like a boxer..my buddies say
I have a honda..

spool..
the stockers give you the fastest of three when it comes boost.
unequal second
and equal third..but the linear delivery of power is trade off.

my 2 cents..
Ben

Thats not always true. :-P My twin scroll sounded like a pissed off muscle car when I had my cutout open. Not only that, I made full boost of 18psi at around 3100 if i remember correctly. They also have the gt spec v3 which is equal length. If you're going to stick with the single scroll design, then I would take Ben's 2 cents. When I upgraded to the gt spec headers, I did notice more lag with the setup, but more top end power.

A good equal length header will get the engine pulses to the turbo in a cleaner and faster manner. A header like the QTP one will have the primaries work together in the Tri Y set up. Increasing scavaging and velocity. The header is one of the most important part of the engine combo. If its not done right it will leave alot of extra horsepower and torque lost.

Peter,
not all us have the twin scroll set up that you have.
And if I could I would most definitely have the twin scroll.
And just to clarify, twin scroll is factory equal length.

But he did not ask about twin scroll just the differences between equal
and nonequal length header.

But after years of on the road testing..ie driving my daily ride..
with headers..makes wonder if I went in the wrong direction..

ESX uses ported stock manifolds...hhmm..

another 2 cents..

I'll take unequal length. Love the bub bub sound of the boxer engine.
