Wrong. You aren't suppose to speed up when being tailgated.

I fought it since there still was no real proof that I was exceeding the speed limit (I'm not even sure I was), but the judge sided with the cop.
Yep, Officers are taught how to gauge speed without radar guns. The Officer I road with was pretty good, he'd come ~3mph of the actual speed of the car.

We made one pull over, funny story. We were on the highway inside Valdez city limits, when he radars a car coming the other way. 68mph in a 55 zone. He U-Turns and pulls the guy over.

He had "State House" plates. The cop goes and talks to the driver, then comes back to me. He shows me his drivers license and I notice that it's one of my teachers from college.

The cop goes, "Do I give him a ticket?"
Me - "Nope, he taught me for 2 years, lets let him slide."

He did just as I suggested and let him go with a warning.

LOL nice eurojax. About the comment of slowing down, I did mention I usually don't speed, and I don't think I was even speeding that night. I know I accerlerated quickly though.

BTW, my father in law, just got a ticket for supposedly not stopping at a stop sign.. but he thinks he did (scary to think we drive so much we don't even know what we are doing)

BS! but what can i do. 2 MP's on base and just me. my word vs theirs. i have no proof that i did stop. so i'm SOL.

Yep, there were a couple weekends where they were pulling over almost everyone who went through that intersection. Fortunately, I was DD'ing when I got pulled over, so my first sgt. let me off with a warning. But definately drive a lot more carefully when you're on-base or on-post.

Not to be too picky but is the 2 or 4 second stop rule issued as a memorandum, posted somewhere on base? Or are they just follwing an order and expecting the message to be carried via word of mouth? I don't have eny need to go out there (except for the occasional meeting) ... so the heads up is apreciated.

Once upon a time, tickets obtained on base weren't released to the state of alaska to apply against one's license. I don't know if that still is the case. Those non 4 second stops may hurt!

In some ways, I have to agree with the longer stops. I've really observed this lesson in my own neighborhood. I'll pull up to the intersection and stop, look right ... look left ... and a vehicle would seem to come out of now where. Sometimes our minds makes us think it was clear. Now its "look right ... look left ... look right ... look left" (most of the traffic seems to come from the left) and then go if it was clear.

yeah... if I ever need to drive on base, I will be requesting a copy of the street rules before signing I understand them. I do not recall ever seeing any 4 second rules posted anywhere when there. But what do I know... I'm canadian lol I was taught to pull up, stop, look left, right and then left, proceed when safe. That takes four seconds at least. Also when stopping, apply the brakes and wait for the momentum to cause the car to rock back.
