I sent my heads to "NF PERFORMANCE" and they offered me two options of chamber work, 51 cc and 56cc. Prices were very reasonable and im glad i did it. No knock even when running high boost. If i remember correctly the 51cc was $225 and the 56cc option (which leaves u at stock sti compression ratio) was $450... The only thing that sucked was the downtime, being that im in NY and there in MINNESOTA.

I did send my heads out. I just smoothed out/rounded out all sharp edges in the combustion chambers. I'll let you know in a few days how she runs.

It can be dirt cheap if you do it yourself. We used a burr and a flap wheel in a die grinder. Put the 2.5l headgasket on the head, trace the circle of the fire-ring, and stay within it when opening up the combustion chamber to the 2.5l dimensions. We had a couple pictures of the 2.5l heads to go by and it took a couple hours to get the heads done. Make sure the CC's of each combustion chamber match and it should be good to go.

The heads we did this on already had cracks around the spark plug holes, so a shop wouldn't have touched them anyway. The engine runs great.

This thread must not be that lame because it keeps coming back. Lol. (cough maxwell)

Had to change my pcv setup because the car was consuming oil during heavy boosting. What i learned so far is this;

1. Dont block the center crank vent on the block. Vent it somehow

2. I have some mileage on my block and didn't need to reshape the heads for the power i make but i have forged piston and only use 93 oct. 18psi daily

3. Stock wrx cams suck so much on the 2.5 block and my car falls on its face

4. Modded injectors suck and you will see what i mean when you switch to id1000's or something similar. My car is just smoother after running two different sets of modded injectors.

5. Extra torque makes you realize how much slop is in your stock suspension

Still going strong in a car with 230k on the odometer. Engine was installed around 206k i think and i have a td06h-60-1 running 18psi daily. Not much but it gets the job done

Ok id like to ask:

I have been reading about how there is a difference between the EJ207 and the Ej257 heads in the way that they Breathe, also the EJ257 appears to have an extra vent on the center,
id like to ask, can someone explain to me the actual difference between the heads and their breathing? im simply trying to understand why im getting excessive CCV pressure on my hybrid.
If it has been answered before i apologise for asking again, i dont mean to offend anyone or seem like a pest.

thanks in advance

There are a bunch of horror stories on here. Company x built my motor and now they wont give me back n dollars. Its very hard to deal with a company thats 10 states away when you want something done about your blown motor.

Yeah that always rubbed me the wrong way. Forunately I have a few shops to choose from in the area, and they are all well qualified. Even if the remote builder knows his stuff up & down, their ability to help customers with problems is usually seriously diminished.

I'd try to see if you can find a builder somewhere in the area, even if it's a few hours drive.

What caused you to replace the motor? I find it odd that its 1 chamber on each head that looks like that. What do the corresponding pistons and plugs look like? I'm guessing they were pretty ****ed because the head is alot tougher than the pistons. I need more.

I know more aggressive cams give you less vac at idle but i don't know how that would make a difference under boost. My car only burned oil when my right foot remained down.

I dont understand the question, I know my 207 heads have the same amount of breathers on the valve covers as the ej257, and I'm fairly certain the 207 block uses the same crank case breather that the 257 has. so I don't see why you would be able to connect everything a if it were stock.

So if you do a 2.5 hybrid build do you need a new ECU also?

no. As long as you have a reliable and talented machinist that can chamber the EJ205 heads to the block, then you don't even need to reflash the ecu**.

**I could get flamed for that, however, my brother's WRX has absolutely no performance mods and has a hybrid motor with ~50k on it.

U def need a tune. What does the 2.0L ecu do to compensate for the extra .5L of displacement on the ej257 block? I dont know how your bro's still driving that thing with no issues.

Mileage since installed: 31k since i bought the car, not sure how many before i owned it, when i bought the car i did not know it was a hybrid, but the car has been very solid and is a DD, each time it has been tuned mikey has told me the car runs amazingly well with no knock even loading up in 5th, do you guys think i should go to a 39 with low boost just to help exhaust flow?
Type Engine and Internals: 257 short block, not sure of internal
Valve-train: believed to be stock 02 wrx heads
Head Gasket Choice: not sure

Current status: Car is running strong and sti mikey tuned on td04 around 290wtq and 250 whp at 17.4 psi
