Default Aftermarket BPV for FA20DIT

Hey All,

Boomba racing posted an interesting video today showing how the stock BPV wan't able to hold boost well at all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFyw-ktSQEQ

If this is true then the turbo has to try and keep up with the escaping air.

Just wanted to open this up for discussion on aftermarket BPVs for this platform and what (if) there is a benefit to having them.

In talking with my tuner he said that they run a boost leak test on every car they tune and have never seen the OEM leak, my question is tho - during a boost leak test, if the BPV is recirculating, would you even see it is it were not able to hold pressure?

What do you think?

I actually opted for a Turbosmart one since I've trusted their products much more. Aside from the point I actually came here to comment on...

Well well well. If the stock recirc was really that leaky, then I guess it would help explain the small loss of boost in the upper portions of the powerband I've been seeing on people's log posts.

Well s***. I didn't realize the stock piece was that bad. Now I'm looking for more info to back this up.

It would be interesting to have someone else do an "independent" test. I ordered one and I'm going to use it on my tune next week so I'll test the stock one if I can.

We'll see! Like I said Cobb Surgeline said that they had not seen any boost leaks from testing cars that they tune (they test every car for boost leaks). So I'm not sure why this one appears to be leaking so much.

I've heard the OEM ones are SOLID.

And I think you are incorrect in thinking that a leak makes your turbo work harder.

How would pressure being lost into the Pre-turbo intake not require the turbo to work harder to build the same boost? If you do have a leaking BPV it's like trying to fill a balloon that has a hole in it. You've got to put more air into it faster because it's also escaping at the same time.

Maybe I'm missing something?

Very curious to see what others have found, I've been looking at this BPV for a bit now. The only thing that deterred me initially was you have to trim an OEM hose, nothing a spare on hand wouldn't cure though although I can't seem to find a part number for that hose only just the entire unit from the recall.

Sounds like we found a solution.
Now, lets find a problem to justify that solution.

I went with the nameless bpv about a year ago. When I took my stock valve off,you could blow some air through it from either direction without a vacuum source connected. I tend to believe it may have been made this way. Mine had 6k miles on it at that point. The nameless has been working great. I'm at 13.5k now

^ Yeah, I think I'm with this guy. I need more evidence to back this up. I have to believe that if it was a true issue, shops/tuners would have realized this over a year ago and recommended ditching the OEM BPV right away.

I'm running a GFB T9107 recirc valve. Direct replacement perfect fit. Awesome quality. The stock one is crap plastic one that can leak boost. There is no comparison.....

Are these causing turbo flutter to those of you with them installed?

T0107 or T9107 Mach2?

All three look good, Boomba makes good products and the price for theirs and the GFB seems more reasonable vs Nameless.

Looks like GFB can be had for $138 or so.

If anyone does an independent test can you please post a video? I'd be very interested in seeing. Thinking about getting something like this. Would you need a tune after install?

I'm running the Turbosmart TS-0205-101 as 100% recirc. There is no doubting the quality on the piece, it's extremely nice. Pretty expensive though. I got mine for a damn good price so I couldn't pass it up. Recirc is also quite a bit louder than stock BPV.

no, and my GFB BPV is set to "max throttle response" much louder whoosh than stock. BOV and intake not needed.
