WRX RWD conversion
Does anyone now if you can make a WRX RWD by just taking the front axles out? or do you need to take apart the transmision?

Yep you need to weld the center diff.

The most you need to do is repalce the center diff with a RWD conversion spool. You can modify a stock center diff to make it RWD or purchase the conversion spool. If you removed the front axles the center diff would put most of the power where there is no load (the front axles). Not to mention that there would be nothing to hold the front wheel bearings together.

the two series of transmissions that are used are either the Toyota 'W' series trans ( from w 55 to 59 2wheel drive or 4 wheel drive)
OR the 'R' series Toyota transmission ( either the R 150 or the R 151 from the V-6 Toyota truck in either 4wheel drive OR 2wheel drive) depending on how they are ordered is how they are machined The R 154 was avoided because the trans is getting harder to find and more expensive, so these two common transmissions were chosen, the R 154 input shaft is 3/4 inch longer and can be used in the R design bellhousing if needed these are designed to use all the stock Subaru components over with nothing more then adding a stock toyota clutch disc |

I'm familiar with Formula Fords as they use to always get pissed when we'd wipe them up at autox's with our Formula SAE car (as it should be).
I might have to shoot you an email for casting contacts |

Woah, I think I saw the post on this at dirtyimpreza (or maybe it was another forum)... nice work!
Would this require a custom driveshaft? What rear diff would you use? R200? Does the shifter line up right? Also, pardon my n00bness, you mentioned 4wd tranny. Would that even work with the subie? or would you use it in a 2wd configuration? |

I think I may have to register as a vendor so I dont violate and rules here before I sell any of these.
I have built many different designs for many custom bellhousings and I am under a lot of heat to build some more of these Subaru set up, so I will be building a batch in the next month Just bump me in about a week |

Its all good, I spent some time building a work holder for this type of work for sanding and welding
these are the 3 sizes, the one on the far right is the first pattern, it was built at 3% larger scale and roughed in the shape, the middle one is the first real casting and then adjustments were made to the weight and shape for casting drafts and expected shrinkage, then the final pattern is built on the left, it is the result of all the other work This is the final pattern, its built with no primer or body filler , its all aluminum so adjustments can be done after testing the first castings in the brigeport |
