is there a way to tell if my sti is stage II
I purchased a used 05 Sti recently and it "came" with a full turbo-back cobb exhaust. I figure the guy that had the vehicle before me probably had some sort of EM with the turbo back (or i sure as hell hope so). I noticed very minute scratches right next to the OBD II port so i assume he may have used the access port with it, maybe. I guess my question is how do i tell if im stage II. The "butt" dyno wont work since i have not driven a stock STi. My car feel very fast, and I have not had a CEL light yet. I drive conservatively sometimes, but iv push it hard before. Any input would be appreciated.

It might have been tuned but the previous owner may have removed the tune before they sold it ie an accessport they could unmarry and then sell seperate, leaving you with the stock map but with scratches around the OBDII port.
A tuner could check your map for you, or try to install an AP and see what it says. If you have a boost guage that might give you an idea as well, if you are running stock boost or above. |

Stage 2 you need EM. Once you get that and put the stage 2 map on you are good. Right now you are at an untuned stage 1.

ask a friend with a married accessport to plug it into your obII port. once you do that if it has a map on it already then it will show a bunch of functions like change map, read boost ect.
If he unmarried the accessport, leaving you with the stock map, then the accessport wont read any of that. |

^^ No it wont, unless you unmarry it from his car and marry it to your car. Each AP can only be used on one car at a time.

OP: your gonna need some sort of EM anyways so just buy an AP and that will be the end of your search!

While EM would be very helpful and put a big smile on your face it is not necessary for STI's with a TBE. OL/CL issues are not a problem on STI's. You may experience boost creep though. EM however might not fix that issue.

boost gauge would be the easiest... check with a tuner... get a cable and pull the map, compare it to a stock map, or post it up and someone will tell you

thanks for the responses guys. What is the stock boost on a sti in PSI and what should stage II boost reading be? I assume the guy that had the car before me unmarried the accessport (why would he not if he sold it), but i was wondering if he just left the map. Il try the boost gauge thing, when i get a boost gauge. However i would rather get some sort of EM before boost gauge anyways. Now if i could only find some cash!

If you have a boost gauge, which you really should, do a WOT run in 3rd gear starting at 3K. Look to see what boost you're hitting. If you're hitting around ~17.5 psi, you're stage 2. If you're around 13psi, you're stock.

Tactrix cable plus logging plus saving your ECU map + enginuity forumz?
Cheaper/easier than a boost gauge and allows you to flash to stage 2 if you want to in the future. You should still get a gauge though if you are modded. |

My other suggestion is to post in your local forum and ask someone with a Tactrix cable to help you out. They can easily read your map and tell you if you're stage 2 or not. If you were local to me, so unless you're willing to take an extended road trip, ask your locals for help. I am sure someone will respond and do it for you.
Or, you could just buy your own for $90. Best money I ever spent. Well, almost...there was that one time....nevermind |

I love this freakin forum. Thank you all, you guys are very helpfull. If any of you come through charleston and get a speeding ticket perhaps, hit me up and il take care of it. Il guess il suck it up and get a boost gauge just to have one, and then EM if I need it. I still need money though, anybody wanna buyt a used cat?

try a 5th gear pull to about 6k. you may hit fuel cut there. thats where my buddies 06 STI hit fuel cut when he was catless before he had AP. (believe me you will know when you have hit it). CEL should come on along with cruise control and all that. you got to speed a bit but its an easy way to figure it out as well.

Just use ecuflash to compare the map on the ecu will the stock map which can be found very easily. Like said above cheaper than a boost gauge and logging will tell you much much more than 1 single gauge will

You can always just look at your boost tables in Enginuity...it will be obvious if it's not stock.
