^Not only that, I don't think a sunroof and leather seats are even available as an option on a base model.

Well the seats are just covers made by "katskin" that much I do know but I'm not sure what he's referring to on the sunroof.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty well sold on it now. The question is when. I wonder if we'll see white on black, black gauges or a 6mt in he 2014? I also learned I might be getting my dads Mini Cooper 's' as a trade soon as his knee can't handle the coupe door and he'd trade mine in. Not sure how I feel about staying in a mini but his gets the same or better mileage as I do thanks to the 6mt and turbo... Still no AWD or 4 doors though. Hrm.

And vw diesels are out for me. As much as I love the looks and interior, they're too expensive and I don't want to roll the dice on the reliability. Some people have zero issues others have theirs in the shop for three weeks in the first two years which is unacceptable.

Just don't let them talk you into a CVT. They are worlds differents in terms of real world mpg vs. EPA highway. The 5MT gets somewhat close, although in looking at real numbers here:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2477627

The CVT gets the equivalent of 30 mpg highway, and the 5MT according to fuelly:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...5&postcount=33

(Look at the data link at the end)

gets just a touch better, so it's probably the equivalent of a 31 mpg highway car, real world. I don't have one though, so I don't pretend to know about the 5MT personally. There's a lot of post purchase rationalization on this list, but I just let the data speak for themselves.

9000 miles on a CVT hatch 2012.

currently....
Long trip 99% highway at 60-74mph, mountain pass included, and a bit of crappy rainy weather in the mountains. approx 32mpg.

Long trip highway, and passing through a few small 35mph towns, with 50-60mph max "highways", and a higher mountain pass and crappy rainy weather in the mountains. approx 35mpg

Real City driving, errands, wife's very very short commute, and maybe 30% 60mph highway. approx 22-24mpg(sometimes lower)

These numbers are pretty consistent.

City numbers suck, but its just not enough miles to worry about it, and it sure is a lot more fun to drive than some subcompact Kia or something.

Lol I meant "you know you want it" as in you know you want an impreza. I didnt mean to sound pompous.

I highly disagree that they are world apart, realistically its 1-2 mpg difference at most, so not worlds. You could argue the opposite in fact (the epa does). I would still recommend the MT unless you deal with traffic/commuting.

Yeah, I misinterpreted that. However, when I was talking about "a world of difference" I was talking about the EPA highway test results vs. that of professional drivers, particularly Consumer Reports (CR) - 36 mpg vs. 30 mpg, respectively - or at least that is the EPA highway rating of the other cars that get the same CR rating. I would still recommend the MT even in traffic, because there is in reality no difference between that and the CVT.

P.S. I rented a Dodge Charger this weekend and set the Cruise Control at 75 mph on a flat level stretch - It's rated at 31 mpg highway and I was getting over 36 mpg. 75 mph.

Fly,

Not many with a manual transmission I'll bet, but based on the distribution of satisfaction of them vs. owners of CVT's, quite a few with the CVT. Then again, this is over your head as are most of the comments around here.

I'm not dissatisfied with my CVT. I test drove the 5 speed and was happier with the CVT.
