Question for people who replaced door speakers?
I was just wondering what people did with the tweeter that's in the front door, If you replaced your front door speakers and are going to power them with an amp did you just leave em hooked up or just unhook them?

Are you looking at just replacing the tweeter? I think most people bought a complete component set.

I just hooked up an amp to coaxial front speakers and unhooked the tweeters. Sounds fine. I'd only hook up tweets that are part of component sets. GL!

I replaced the tweeters and door speakers (front and back) with Infinity Reference speakers using the existing wiring and all speakers are powered by my Alpine 9831. Sounds great to me but I do need to do some tuning.

conker69-
which reference speakers did you put in? I;d like to put the 61/2 comps up front (i'm pretty sure they fit) but the back i'm not sure if the 51/4 coax will fit or if there is any benefit to them over the 4. Also what power does your head unit put out? |

I assume you mean to put the tweeter in the stock tweeter location and the woofer in the door location? IMO I don't suggest doing that. I think the comps sound crappy when the pieces are seperated like that. The sound stage sounds small in other words. The Reference 6002i has a swiveling tweeter, which I have aimed up and coupled with the tweeter makes a nice large soundstage. Also, if you do comps, you will need to have more power to make them sound good. Get an amp. As for the rears, all they do is provide some fill so I don't see any advantage over using 5 1/4 versus 4. Some 5 1/4 speakers will be a pain in the ass to install, keep that in mind. I choose Infinity Reference because I don't want to install amps and they match very well on a high powered head unit such as this one. Also, the 9831 has quite a bit of tuning options, which I have not completed yet, which helps out a lot. Good luck! |

are there any infinity speakers that fit up front with out the brackets from IA? i have an alpine 9815 and a 10in sub in the back..i just want to replace the door speakers before the alpine deck kills em... also, do the infinitys sound pretty good, clarity wise?
thanks |
