I did this for a mate when we had time constraints. It took 2 hrs including testing. When I was doing my car for the first time it took a lot longer but I knew nothing about turbo engines or Subarus. Best advice, take your time mate. Breaking things under there is very expensive.

I will be doing this when I put in the oil catch cans (February 7th or 8th), figured since a lot of the stuff will already be off it will be easiest to do. If you want to buy some of the clamps off of me I am in North Chicago area, and will be heading to Jacksonville NC at the end of February. Unless you wanted to pay for shipping I do not think I would actually ship them out but let me know or PM me.

Just to give everybody a heads up I will be selling them for 20 shipped. This is for 2 9448h clamps and 2 9444h clamps. I will have them this weekend and can start sending them on Monday. Amazon has the 9420 for 6.99 and it is a one pack not a 10 pack. I would sell them for less however I noticed that shipping was insane and I am making no money really on them. I will have 6 left, first come first serve. If you live in Waukegan area you can just stop by give me 5 bucks for the 4 clamps.

I replaced the 4 clamps on the pressurized side. Clamp "kits" are starting to become available, but originally I ran into the same issue of needing to order a box of 10 each. I got a set of 2 of each of the sizes off ebay for 23 bucks.

Other notes:
1. Lots of sharp edged inside the plastic tanks of the intercooler - probably not the best for air flow.
2. A thin film of oil "fingers" could be seen creeping along the inner plastic surfaces of the inlet side of the intercooler (3k miles on the car - amsoil signature 5w-30). Nothing has made it to the aluminum part of the intercooler and nothing on the outlet side of the intercooler.
3. None of the original clamps were visibly loose, but not tight either.

You have to replace 5, can either tighten or replace the other 3. I opted to replace all 8 since I bought boxes of 10 anyway

I purchased the 5 clamps rec. to be replaced in a set from FASTWRX. I thought about replacing the other three but after looking at the diagram of where those other three clamps are. If you are going to replace your intake I don't think those clamps will be on your car anymore.

I remember there was a reason why I never retightened those ones. I remember reading something about it but never did it because I had an intake so...I do not need it, lol.

I'll finish it tomorrow or Friday... LOL! Stupid cold side intercooler piping wont go in flush. It's tight in there but want it to go back in as it's suppose to. Wiggled and wiggled and it just wouldn't budge. "Aint nobody got time for that."

Just installed the 5 clamps / tightened the other 3 last night.

2 of the 3 Clamps on the intake for the most part were still tight, The one closer to the turbo required about 5-6 turns to fully tighten.

The Clamp right in front of the turbo was tight (Replaced with Breeze Clamps), but the BPV Clamp was loose (again, 5-6 turns to fully tighten but replaced by breeze clamp). 2 of the 3 stock Intercooler clamps required 2-3 turns to be tight but were replaced with Breeze Clamps. The stock Throttle Body clamp was NOT tight at all! 2 turns and it was off
(Again, Replaced it with Breeze Clamps).

Initial impressions:

Drove around for about 20 miles after the install and Immediately felt a difference, I'm not saying I gained 1000 HP or anything. The car just seems to drive a lot smoother, that alone was worth the price of the clamps.

Also, before the install I would get fine and feedback knock of -1.41 (some call it cruise knock) pretty much anytime I drove the car, no matter the distance. I didn't see any of that last night. I'll check back in later this week as I get more seat time to see how things play out.

N0000000000000ooooooooooooooooooooo

do NOT use ANY kind of grease or petroleum jelly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jesus......

the BEST way to do it....is to get some pump spray bottle HAIR SPRAY..white rain is cheap.....

use that

and for ****ing CHRIST SAKE.....DO NOT USE ****ING ANY SORT OF PETROLEUM PRODUCT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PETROLEUM products are a bad idea as they make leaks and blow offs of the charge pipes VERY EASY....and then idiots over tighten clamps and cut hoses and distort pipes and do all sorts of real idiot things and cause all sort of other idiot issues

jesus

The clamp on my BPV was pretty tight. To take it off you have to loosen the clamp quite a bit and wiggle it a lot. Took me a good 10min once I got to it.

I uninstalled the entire hard plastic throttle body hose, installed clamps and reinstalled.Sprayed some wd40 on my finger and rubbed it on the inside of the hose and everything went back together very easily.
