LGT Transmission swap help...400whp!!!!
Well I’ve decided that even though the Australian dollar is so low compared to the US dollar, I still don’t have adequate dough to buy a PPG gear set and install it in my suby.
Looking like I’m going to try and go with a 5spd Legacy GT transmission and hope for the best. I’ve heard that they can withstand upwards of 400whp. Does anyone know what the best year is for the LGT trannies? Is it the same style transmission my 2000 2.5RS? If I remember, the RS has a push style tranny. Correct? Any help would be appreciated!!!

If I had the choice, I'd shoot for an OBXT transmission: Push Style, LGT gears, and 4.444 Final Drive.

My suby if for the drag strip...so 4.44 gears would be the kiss of death unless it were an automatic

I know lots of people use the gears., but I think there was a problem with putting a whole LGT trans in. I don't think there is a place for the speed sensor. Not sure on that, you should check it out. OH and yeah, with 4.444 gears you'd have to shift to 5th at the dragstrip, unless your car is really slow.

with my 411 gears I was 300 feet short of the quarter mile marker and just let off and coasted through...would have been a waste of time to put it into 5th...

idk. if you want a true 400whp for drag, I'd get something stronger. Have you discussed this option and application with Andrewtech? They could help you make the right choice.

www.andrewtechautomotive.com has your answers, call them. Transmissions DO NOT hold WHP in any way shape or form, so forget that line of reasoning.

I just put in a jdm wrx 4.11 trans. I haven't been to the track yet with the new trans, but doing the math it should do 115 mph at 7000 rpm in 4th. My car runs 110 now, so I should be ok.

Either way, call Andrewtech. You will breathe a sigh of educated relief when you hang up with them. |

I just had mine rebuild with all new '05 LGT internals. Seems to work nicely, bit I have more like 250 WHP.

Have called and emailed andrewtech in the past with little success. When I called no one picked up and when I PM'd or emailed I got no response.
What I am planning on doing actually is to get a LGT transmission then sometime this year spring for PPG 1/2 straight cut gears. This would hopefully hold my power. My mistake...Ive red around that the LGT gears can handle up to 400whp but I know its all about how much torque it can handle and nothing about hp. Trying to stay as cost efficient as possible buy doing PPG 1/2 and LGT 3/4/5 should handle my project's power... |

Might want to look into a front lsd too if you drag race a lot and have the case open anyway. I have been having a lot of trouble with spinning the right front tire at the track. I'm looking at maybe gettting the OBX one for $350 , the cusco, kazz etc. are $1000 |

Just what is the best year Legacy GT to take the tranny out of?
Heard 05 was the best one. Thicker gears than previous years (by 30%). Any truth to this? What style transmission is the 05? Heard it was a push style same as my my 2000 impreza 2.5rs. So it should be an easy swap then...or must I swap the rear diff out too... |

I highly suggest you write-off their slow response (not common) and make the effort to get in touch with them. You will be glad you were patient and gave them the benefit of the doubt.
