I have a '14 Impreza Hatch. How loud are the factory bars on the highway? Can a fairing be needed to the factory bars? Are they wide enough to put a canoe?

Mine aren't too loud. Only if the sunroof is open then it's noticeable. As far as canoes I'm not too sure

I just got a '16 Impreza Sport with the factory rails but no crossbars. The factory cross bars appear curved which is a pain because I occasionally use my rack to carry large flat things. Does anyone have an extra set of cross bars for a car they no longer have that they want to sell? Specifically the aero style systems from Thule, Yakima or similar.

Check the for sale section.
Also check your local craigslist.
I just snagged a pair of Thule square bars and feet for $175 for my '16 sport from someone's old Volvo V50. Will post pics here later this week.

Are square bars with fairing quieter than aero bars without fairing?

I like the look:

Now I just gotta get a nice 14-16' touring yak.
What size wind fairing did you get?

Total Newb to roof racks. Purchased the OEM rack from Subaru for my Impreza 5 dr (non-sport). Am looking for a fairing and saw one on a local CL ad for cheap. Will a Yakima fairing fit or will I need different clips? Most people I see get the Inno one.

Default Thule Fit and Finish?

hi guys,
this thread was very helpful to me, yet seems dead these days, and i don't know if anyone is even reading anymore, but i thought i'd give it a shot to get some feedback...

after much debate over the OEM cross bars vs aftermarket, i decided go for the "over-engineered" approach and bought the Thule Aeroblade system for my Limited HB.

this included the 3068 Fit Kit, Aeroblade 47s, Rapid Podium 460R, and lockset.

while i think the overall package looks good (from afar), i was pretty disappointed by the fit and finish and quality control.

QC: one of the top strips for my Aeroblades was shorter than the other and leaves a small gap at the end of the bar. i can't see how these all shouldn't be standardized and measured perfectly, but for some reason, this one was not. in fact, i could argue that the longer one is a little too long, but i managed to "soak up" the extra distance by starting at the end and probably compressing things a little in the middle)

Fit and Finish: what really disappointed me was how well the rapid podium sits on the Fit Kit and how insecure the cover feels, even with a lock in place. there is play to the cover of the Podium and as you can see in the attached figured, the cover doesn't rest flush, as i would have expected, onto the rubber Fit Kit base.

Thankfully, i don't hear any vibration from this less than perfect fit, and moreover, at least up to 50MPH this morning on my one installed bar (that's all i could accomplish last night with too many things going on), i didn't detect any elevated noise driving with the bar on.

anyone else have experiences with how well this covers fit and secure on to the rack base mounts on their cars (where Rapid Podium or the other few options)? maybe i'm just expecting too much from a $450 purchase?

Just scored this entire setup for $100. Railgrab towers, 48" bars, lock cores and key w/ 38" fairing. I'm selling the fairing along with my old bars, and plan on moving up to a larger 48" Inno fairing that I'll modify so it won't sit on to of my sunroof.

I didn't like how tall the basket was. So I lowered it.

Thule is the more expensive route but I've never had a bad experience with them!

Finally got around to finishing my extensions for the 48" Inno fairing. First pic is how they looked after bead blasting, while the rest are patined satin black and mounted. A buddy of mine cut and milled all three out of a single piece of 6063-T52 square aluminum tube.

They completely clear the sunroof and roof rails. My favorite part is I can still mount my Yakima basket with the fairing attached to help minimize wind noise on the freeway. Don't have the basket attached atm, but can update with a few pics later.

I have a '13 Impreza sedan, and am looking for a roof rack that can be attached using the door frame (this would be so much easier with fixed points like the wagon). I don't want to shell out $400+ for a Thule model, so does anyone have a off-brand recommendation that has worked well for them? I'm about to drive across the country to Colorado and don't want my snowboard and hockey gear to litter the highway!

I know I'm really late to this thread(4 years late), but I'm trying to find crossbars for my '13 Subaru Impreza sports premium. I see that you have the factory rails on it, and was wondering how are the Thule bars treating you?

Default Cross Bars for Impreza 2013 sport

Hello, I have a Subaru Impreza Sport 2013 hatchback. I'm in Canada so it seems like they don't come standard with the roof rails.

I am interested in getting the roof rails. The official Subaru cross bars that bolt directly to the roof mounting points are around $285 CDN. However there is someone in my city selling some 2008 Impreza cross bars for less than half that.

I have checked and the 2008 and 2013 cross bars have different part numbers.

Can anyone tell me if it is in fact compatible to use on my vehicle? (2008 cross bars on a 2013 Impreza).
Thank you.

p.s. The bars I am talking about are these... http://parts.subaru.com/images/parts...L100_17Imp.jpg

129coconut; I like your setup for the rails, where can I get something like that? I'm planning a 2 week cross country trip in my 2011 wrx and I needed something for extra camping supplies.

Great thread . Question for folks with clamp set up (ie no factory mounting points) - does the clamp cause water to leak in the doors? Thanks

It should not cause leaks - but it all depends on which manufacturer's setup you opt for. Some work better than others, most will not interfere with weather seals though.
