A little off topic, but...

It's been inspirational to see Alex Zanardi at the Daytona 24.

Agreed, that guy is a badass! When his first stint almost wasn't to be due to the steering wheel not working, he was ready to sacrifice his drive for the team. I was about to cry! So glad the crew got it to work at the last second.

Formula One For Sale, Again

Less than 3 years after Liberty Global acquired Formula One, the company is reportedly exploring scenarios that would decrease their stake in the international racing circuit; everything from an exit to the introduction of new equity partners in on the table. Liberty has failed to add races (see: Miami) and/or major sponsors, attract younger fans (fact: just 14% are < 25 years old) or drive digital revenues (.06% of total revenue in ***8216;18); issues that collectively indicate the C-suite is in over their heads and taking direction from the wrong places. Keep an eye on former owner Bernie Ecclestone, the British business magnate has the capital, know-how and can likely reclaim the asset back for a fraction of the $8 billion he sold it for.

DAZN Looking to Unload Perform Content

Sources indicate that UK-based DAZN Group, rich in fight sports broadcasts rights (in U.S.), is piling up the losses on its P&L and is considering selling off the company's B2B play - Perform Content (think: data, news, game prod.) - to fund additional rights acquisitions. The initial plan was to use Perform Content's cash flow to cross-finance the company's D2C sports-centric streaming service, but skyrocketing rights fees for live sports content (see: $1 billion commitment for Matchroom Boxing, $350 million for Canelo Alvarez, $300 million for MLB) has created the need for some short-term financing; look for the company to add some long-tail content in the near-term to complement the cyclical nature of its live MMA/boxing events.

Ticketmaster on the Market

A decade after acquiring the ticketing giant, there are rumors that Live Nation could be looking to shed Ticketmaster at a profit. Ticketmaster wants to be in the marketplace business, but a decision by eBay to spinoff Stubhub (see: activist investors urging split) would force the company to become a market maker. By cutting ties with Ticketmaster, Live Nation - a content rights holder - would be able to take advantage of a more robust ticketing engine (note: TM technology is dated) and open distribution (see: sell as many as many tickets as possible); Ticketmaster wants all sales to go through Ticketmaster.

Fox Sports' Home for Gambling Content

5 years after the launch of FS2, Fox Sports may finally have a programming solution (besides NASCAR and UFC repeats) for the supplemental cable sports channel; gambling content. The talk is certainly preliminary, but it's not difficult to imagine a future where New Fox looks to marry live rights with sports betting; the company has already introduced its first daily gambling show - "Lock It In" with Rachel Bonnetta, Cousin Sal and Clay Travis (on FS1). Could ESPN (with ESPN2) be far behind?

What is "johnwallstreet.com", and why would we take their word for anything related to F1? Their first sentence isn't even correct (Liberty Global doesn't own F1), so why would I believe the rest of it?

How many races were there in 2018 compared to previous years?

Without knowing what those numbers were for previous years, those are useless metrics.

Oh, and thanks for the updates on Ticketmaster, DAZN, and Fox Sports. Fascinating, and very relevant to this thread!!

Not sure if I like this name change.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/s...acing/4331468/

The Sauber name will disappear from the Formula 1 grid in 2019 as the team officially rebrands as Alfa Romeo Racing.
Alfa's title sponsorship of Sauber last year marked its first major F1 involvement since the 1985 season.

That partnership was always intended to expand onto a technical front to enable Alfa, part of the Fiat group that includes Ferrari, to become more actively involved.

The team will be entered into the 2019 world championship as Alfa Romeo Racing, effectively reviving the works entry that won the inaugural F1 titles in 1950 and 1951.

It is not strictly an out-and-out factory operation, as Sauber's ownership and management remain unchanged and independent of Alfa.

The cars, which will driven by 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari test and development driver Antonio Giovinazzi, will sport Alfa's four-leaf clover emblem that denotes its high-performance vehicles.

Alfa team principal Frederic Vasseur said: "It is a pleasure to announce that we will enter the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship with the team name 'Alfa Romeo Racing'.

"After initiating the collaboration with our title sponsor Alfa Romeo in 2018, our team made fantastic progress on the technical, commercial, and sporting side.

"This has given a boost of motivation to each team member, be that track-side or at the headquarter in Switzerland, as the hard work invested has become reflected in our results.

"We aim to continue developing every sector of our team while allowing our passion for racing, technology and design to drive us forward".

The Sauber name has been on the F1 grid since 1993, even when it was bought by BMW and ran as a fully-fledged works team from 2006 to 2009.

Founded by Peter Sauber, the team scored points in its debut season and every year thereafter, with the exception of a troubled 2014 campaign.

It struggled again in 2016 and 2017 but fresh investment, hiring Vasseur as team boss and establishing closer links with Ferrari and subsequently Alfa have helped revitalise its fortunes.

That left Sauber tipped as the team to watch in F1 this year, following its improvement with contemporary Ferrari engines and an enhanced technical effort in 2018 that helped it finish eighth in the constructors' championship.

"We're proud to collaborate with Sauber in bringing Alfa Romeo's tradition of technical excellence and Italian panache to the pinnacle of motorsport.

"Make no mistake: with Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi on one side of the pit wall and Alfa Romeo and Sauber expertise on the other, we are here to compete."

It sucks but it happens. Jordan is gone but lives on as another team. The only thing I don't like is the fake involvement. Ferrari make Ferrari F1 cars. Mercedes make Mercedes F1 cars. Renault makes Renault F1 cars. How involved is Alfa Romeo in the F1 team sporting their name? Any more than the "Aston Martin Red Bull"?

Well, aren't both Alpha and Ferrari Fiat? I think they only commit what they have to for the return they want, ideally. And Ferrari being a certain exception.

One reason I'm a Haas fan. He's kinda the closest thing we have to those old teams.

Ferrari got spun off a few years ago. Piero Ferrari owns 10%, Exor N.V. owns 22.91%, and the rest is public. Their stock symbol is RACE

Haas livery

Pretty unimaginative. Hopefully there aren't any other black cars on the grid.

I still think Rich Energy is the Fyre Festival of energy drinks, but whatever.

Seems like it needs more gold accents (or some other color accents). Too much black, too little something else.

All the white lettering kinda seems to create an imbalance. Maybe the Peak logo had to have white lettering so they made more white to fit in.

There seems to actually be more white real estate than gold.

Going to have to Google Rich Energy. No idea who or what that is.

At least Haas is performing consistently / well enough to attract another sponsor.

Going to their website it appears it's an F1 team which also sells an energy drink . There is more on their page about the team than their product.

I was going to comment on the "title sponsor" having a smaller logo than the Haas name on the side. It's obvious who is the larger fiscal supporter of the team.

Personally, I think they're the Fyre Festival of energy drinks. There is no product. They don't produce energy drinks and sell them. They're available next to nowhere. There is no company HQ. It's all a marketing promotional idea with no tangible results. I guess the check to Haas came through but trying to build a business backwards by taking your capital, turning it into marketing hype by sponsoring an F1 team and expecting it to grow based on that exposure is not going to work. They're not built organically like Red Bull or Monster over years. They're going to be scrambling when this initial investment runs out because you haven't actually produced and sold anything to create any future revenue, nor do you have any experience in doing so.

I would be absolutely bewildered if they are still here next year.
