Default Jaguar F-Type Coupe patent images exposed, 4-cyl coming?

Autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/03/j...-4-cyl-coming/

Quote:
Last year, Jaguar told us that "if you get a convertible right, it's easy to do a coupe" in reference to a coupe version of the Jaguar F-Type, and now we might be seeing our first unofficial look at a hardtop version of the convertible. The German publication Auto Motor und Sport has dug up what it is reporting to be patent images filed by Jaguar showing the lines of the new coupe.

If these are actually patent drawings, they have definitely been enhanced with color and shadowing compared to what we usually see from OEM patent filings. We wouldn't be surprised if they are just altered images of Jaguar's C-X16 Concept, but either way, it's going to be a sharp car. On top of the new coupe, the article also says that the F-Type could be getting the same 240-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is currently used in the Jaguar XF, as well as the Land Rover LR2 and Range Rover Evoque.

The person who developed the iconic Aston Martin body shape of the last decade or so moved to Jag within the last few years. It's no wonder that Jags have taken on a very Aston Martin like shape.

It is not an unpleasant shape, but I think this designer is a one trick pony.

Probably true. I just don't understand how people can think the new Jag styling is so fresh and fantastic when it's a modification to what Aston Martin has been producing for the last 10 years. Perhaps it's the Jag models falling into a more "affordable" price bracket?

As I said, it's not an unappealing shape / style. It just isn't something we haven't seen before.

And one will cost at least 2X as much as the other.......

Subaru is capable of a 300hp BRZ, but is there a market willing to pay for that?

Honestly, even if it were base STI price and had a big brake kit, and better struts, and 300hp with a beefed up diff/trans I'd still consider it a decent value. Leave the interior as is. But, it lacks AWD and the diffs that come with it and would still be short a little bit of power compared to other RWD v6 coupes, but it's lighter and handles better accordingly, so I'd probably say base MSRP of like 32k would be acceptable. 30k would make it a good bargain like the new mustang gt.

They look good, but their engines are way down on power for their displacement considering they have FI.

This guy. I've had the pleasure to drive an xk and an xk r. They simply have their own personality and a jaguar is a pretty damn close comparison.

Jaguar is planning a hot F-Type Coupe to rival the Porsche 911 Turbo S

The Jaguar F-Type is already giving the Porsche 911 a run for its money, but Auto Express has learned that Jaguar is planning an F-Type Coupe which will blow any 911 out of the water - including the 553bhp Turbo S model.

Our source working within the company revealed: "We have done an R-S version with over 700bhp that will do over 200mph - it's going to be insane." They also hinted that the car would look "fantastic" in the striking French Racing Blue paint scheme reserved for all of the brand's wildest sports car models like the XKR-S.

Our exclusive image - based on the C-X16 concept revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year - shows how a pumped-up F-Type Coupe could look.

***8226; Jaguar F-Type vs Porsche 911 on video

To achieve the power figures, the F-Type R-S could use some of the engine technology which was developed for the canned 900bhp C-X75 hybrid supercar. That means a turbocharged and supercharged 1.6-litre petrol engine twinned with multiple electric motors could provide the drive- this could help create a 700bhp version of the forthcoming car.

The standard F-Type Coupe is set to arrive next year, but we'll have to wait a little longer for this flagship - it won't go into production until at least 2016.

I didn't realize that top of the line Jags get exclusive "French racing blue" paint job. That's gotta rub some football hooligan types the wrong way, no?

This is your first official look at the production Jaguar F-Type Coupe. And it's a first official look which proves that, erm, the F-Type Coupe has a roof. Which is good news, what with it being a coupe.

Despite this limited view, we are excited. So is Jaguar. "We've been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the F-Type convertible," says Jag design director Ian Callum, "but for me the purity of creating a sports coupe is a uniquely satisfying process. F-Type Coupe raises the bar yet again."

That's fightin' talk. We won't see the rest of the F-Coupe until its reveal at the Los Angeles show on November 19, but we already know plenty about the hardtop two-seater.

Like... engines. The C-X16 concept that previewed the production F-Type featured a 475bhp hybrid powertrain combining Jag's supercharged V6 and an electric motor driven by a battery mounted ahead of the rear axle.

But the production F-Coupe won't, at least initially, come with hybrid power. It'll launch with the same trio of petrol-gargling engines as the convertible: the 335bhp V6, 375bhp V6S and stonking V8S, good for 488bhp.

The coupe is the second wave in Jag's bid to out-911 the Porsche 911 with its F-Type range. This hardtop will, down the line, spawn a hardcore, lightweight ***8216;GT3' version (though it's unlikely to be badged as such), probably featuring a bumped-up version of Jag's supercharged V6, and rather less in the way of interior.

It'll also eventually be treated to four-wheel drive, using the same driveline we'll see on Jag's upcoming ***8216;baby saloon' 3-Series rival and the production C-X17. Using an electronic centre differential, it'll remain RWD in normal driving, with the diff pushing power to the front in slippery conditions.

But first comes the rear-drive F-Type Coupe. In our Scotland shoot-out back in May, the soft-top F-Type narrowly - narrowly - lost out to the Porsche Boxster. Can this hard-top match the brilliant Cayman?
