Everyone can benefit from this and there is no reason not to go with a cheaper rate. Currently, you can re-fi also to that rate. So, go get your great deal at Subaru and finance in-house so you can negotiate a lower price and then just re-fi it after your first payment.

Technically, you can re-fi before even the first payment but it can be a hassle if not all the paperwork has cleared all authorities.

So, stop all the arguing and go get a penfed account while they are still letting people do it.

I have both my cars with Penfed at 1.49% from before they raised the rate recently. They also have astoundingly low rates on home loans - 3.5%.
Good to know AAA members are eligible to join Penfed. I'll check it out, thanks.

My point is still valid that you have to be a qualifying member of an organization (even though AAA or donations is peanuts by comparison) to join.

Again, not speaking to anyone specific, myself, or anyone's specific financial situations but not everyone is going to qualify for the lowest rate and that is a fact. Some will and some won't. Even if you don't qualify for the lowest rate, I'm not criticizing anyone's decision to buy a new car.

Also, thanks to the folks who broke everything out in the pricing. There's no point in only comparing out-the-door pricing, because taxes & fees are different everywhere. (For example, you could pay $3000 more for your Forester in Oregon and still end up paying a similar out-the-door price to emac's stellar deal in California.)

Yea. I like how this discussion when from price point to people with bad credit (aka: me "supposedly") and bad APR's (which I got) lol. Seriously, for all they know I could have credit score of 350 (which I dont) and the fact I got a 2.25% APR which would be amazing.

Anyhow.... the POINT of my post was to help people who are in the market to buy a new forester, see what other people got. Yes I could have gone with penfed and saved some money over 5 years. I knew about this before buying the; however, a few things happened right before I bought the car and didn't want to have my credit ran AGAIN.

So let's get back to the POINT which was the car is more like a 30k car OR a 35k car and NOT a 40k car. Again this will all very on trim, individual tax/license/state fees, and your haggeling ability.

OK, I'll throw in the white towel and call in a truce.

So emac08... what's your impressions of the power delivery on your FXT?

I came from my little 2011 autobahn gti (6 speed) and once you get past the fact the forester is a CVT, I think the power is excellent. It surprised me how quick it picks up and how easy it is pass other cars without hesitation (quicker than my GTI). Put it on sport mode and the response is even better! Tomorrow i'll take it off the beaten path to a road which my pop's CRV couldn't handle too well and see how things stands.

First post to report that my 30 mile commute in LA traffic just got 1000% more awesome! Just got my dark gray '14 Forester XT Touring w/ Eyesight/KeylessAccess/HIDs, popular package 2, and aero cross bars (and a Backpacker mag from the waiting room) for $34.4k (includes $825 destination fee) + tax, tag, title at Subaru of Glendale CA, and 1.49% financing. Basically paid invoice. Pretty satisfied with the price since I badgered every dealer in Socal - asked for VIP pricing, used AAA buying services, etc etc, and this was the best offer I could get locally. Clint at Heuberger motors in CO hooked me up with 1k below invoice but I couldn't wait 3mo to do an order. Glendale had exactly what I wanted on the lot, as well as 4 other local dealers, so I worked out the best deal I could (with the advice of [Mr]Goodcar of course, using his research on this forum). Super stoked to have another Subie in the fam and for the new one to be mine!! Cant wait to take Fozzy up to Yosemite next month.

Join a Subaru affiliate such as IMBA and after 6 months of membership for $30 you are guaranteed 2% below invoice. I tried to get dealers to match VIP pricing by saying I was a new member of one of their affiliates.

That's if the dealer participates.

I just got an e-mail from SoA thanking me for my interest in Subaru and offering me VIP pricing if I purchase a new car before April 15th. I guess it's a good thing I waited a bit :P (Although I would have gotten invoice price anyway - another 2% off is great). I'll have a chat with a nearby dealer tomorrow after my confirmation clears.

A question for you, Justy:

The VIP form required that I select a nearby dealership - Can I use my authorization form at any dealership that participates in the program? The one I selected has a sparse inventory compared to others.

Thanks for any help

Just took the car for a little "soft roading." Got to use the x-mode and it worked pretty well. The HUD was pretty cool showing you which wheels are slipping and where the power is going to from the brief moments I looked at it. Went up a hill which caused my pops 2 wheel drive SUV fail pretty bad at (yea I know it's not a fair comparison). The whole way up the dirt path was cake.

As long as they participate, you should be able to.

Test drove a '14 Forester XT Touring this morning at my dealership while getting my car serviced. Interior of this top of line XT is meh compared to my Tribeca which is quite outdated already. Acceleration is smooth but not as fun as my current WRX. Overall, not very impressed. Continue to wait for next gen WRX.

Your guess is as good as mine. I'm working under the theory that it's because I signed up for more information on the Subaru.com site. My VIP cleared this afternoon and the dealer received the fax, so I'm probably going to just order one with them (Looks like I have 45 days to use it). It'll give me 2 more months to enjoy my current car :P I'm just not sure anymore because the CX-5 just feels like so much more of a driver's car, but the 2.5i nails everything but the driver's enjoyment... bah. I'll figure this out yet.

Also, thanks for the clarification, Justy.

For reference, here's the e-mail I got from SoA (link removed):

Quote:
Special VIP Purchase Program
To thank you for your interest in Subaru and make your next vehicle purchase that much easier, we invite you to "take another look" at what Subaru has to offer you!

Now thru April 15, 2013 we are offering you the opportunity to participate in a special VIP Purchase Program! This program provides you with the opportunity to lease or buy a new Subaru for $1,000 to $3,000 off the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)* (depending on model and accessories), less all applicable incentives in effect at the time of purchase.

No negotiation. No pressure. No obligation. Just click here to view program information, then complete and transmit the "Request a VIP Dealer Visit Authorization form" to VIP Program Headquarters. Within twenty four business hours, we will email program information to you along with your approved authorization form, which must be presented to the dealer in order to obtain this special pricing.

Questions can be directed to VIP Program Headquarters via email at [email protected] or telephone to 800-VIP-0933.

I just brought my 2014 home tonight. Fresh off the truck. It is a Premium, CVT with Option package 2 and Popular package 2. Only able to grab one inside picture tonight. This is our second Subaru in 4 months. On New Years Eve my wife got an XV Crosstrek.

They should have showed what the competitors were doing compared to what the Subaru Forester was able to do in the same tests. They only did it for the Ford Escape, RAV4, and Mazda CX-5 but only for two tests.

I was really excited for a good comparo, since I'd definitely be cross-shopping each. Sadly, this was nearly worthless...
