Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays?
Couldn't really find a specific enough forum, but hopefully this works.
Those honda kids have crazy shaved engine bays, which look sooo dope! I was thinking of possibly doing a v-mount, shaving my engine bay, getting it painting, etc. They actually weld all the holes, re-located the battery, smooth down the shock towers and fender wells, and completely paint them to match the car. Can it be done on a subaru? Has anyone done it before? I really want to come out with a really sick looking engine bay, and I guess if im going to do it, im going all-out. here are just some pics of what other people have done: here is a thread with hundreds of different engine bays completely shaved. http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1693934

There's no link at the bottom of your post, however. |

Yup it would look sick. I had my turbokonejo aka MK1 VW Rabbit pritty much looking like that. Lots of Vdub kids do it too. Not sure if it can be done on the subie but I think it would be hot. Do it D.

I guess I could move the battery to the trunk, take out the window washer tank and those misc hoses etc, weld up the holes and make it clean. Then paint it a fresh color after its completely smooth. A nice rotated turbo kit, v-mount or reversed manifold to reduce piping, and im sure it will turn out wild. I wanted to see if anyone has done this yet or even plans on doing it. |

I'm hoping by atleast summer I have the new block and rotated turbo kit, so while the motor is out ill just go to town. My friend welds, im re-painting the car so ill spray it then, and ill powdercoat the brackets and tanks. Then the engine bay will be clean enough to eat off of! I'll come up with something crazy, don't you worry!

You'll definitley have a nice advantage of being able to do it while the engine's out, i've heard of ppl who do it up the hardway, which is a nightmare!
Pathetic idea unless you're gonna have a lot of room to breath... I'll be doing all that to my project car.. and then maybe once that project car is done my subaru (daily driver) can have enough downtime to clean it up.. It's a lot of work, but makes life so much easier keeping everything clean... Also, make sure you do a DAMN neat/clean job of labeling and sorting your wires and ****, because if you need to replace wires or something, and they're all just jumbled behind the firewall or whatever, it's going to be a ****ing chore and a half. |

Great minds think alike. No one has done it to a subaru yet, so im definately shooting to do it asap. It makes the engine look so sick, im sure if a couple nice wrx's do it now, it will turn into a fad.
Team mates with shaved and tucked engine bays? wildness! |

Those things look awesome, but i think it would be really hard with a subaru because of all the vacum lines and everything for the turbo. idk if you i say do it and post up pics as to what it looks like.

The H/A guys take out A/C, PS, and CC which cleans it up a good bit. Tuck the headlight harness in the fenderwells, and reroute the fuse box behind the glovebox area/ dash. As planned, put the battery in the trunk.
Unfortunately, we have a lot more electrical stuff to deal with then a lot of the H/A guys do. GL, and keep us posted. |

Is the juice worth the squeeze? In your case I'd say yes since yours is a show car. I don't think I've ever seen a tucked engine bay on a suby but I'm sure it would look good. I don't know how hard it would be but I've always liked the look of engine bays with flat panels. I've seen it alot on muscle cars.
Like this. http://sn65.com/images/SN65***37;20Im...n_engine_1.jpg |

I've always wanted to get mine as shaved as possible, like an old muscle car without any wires. I haven't painted the engine bay body color because I'm awaiting a full respray, but I did shave as much of the wiring as I could (subarus are harder to hide wiring then honda's are since all our stuff is right on top).
There's only one wire loom to the right, and a set of grouped looms from behind the engine. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...0&postcount=39 |
