The good and bad about buying from the States....
Hello everyone in Canada! Anywayz, just thought I'd share a little bit about my experience of bringing in stuff from the states.
First of all, I had the opportunity to visit some of my relatives in Portland OR and Vancouver WA. It also happend that someone on the i-board was selling his SS Stromung dual tip which I of course bought! As I crossed the border, the customs officer asked me if I bought anything, and being the good Canadian that I am, I told him that I bought a used muffler. He proceeded to tell me, "have a good evening." I paid just a touch under $400 for the muffler (250USD). I thought for sure that I would have to pay duty on it. Maybe because it was used that I didn't? So that's the good story. Here's the bad story -- if you purchase anything from the States, MAKE SURE THEY DO NOT SEND IT VIA UPS -- total rip off of this "brokerage fee"!! I purchased a set of Kartboy mounts from ISR. I specifically told them to send it via USPS - US Postal Service. I guess they didn't read that part and they sent it via UPS. I've got to pay about $40 brokerage fee for something that costs about $60CDN!! I am not too pleased with the latter, but I am very happy with the former! Well, wish me luck as I try to put on my muffler tomorrow! I hope I don't kill myself! LaterZ! Darren!!

When Markus and I got our struts and my springs from TRi, they sent it via UPS. We had to pay about $170 in brokerage fees before they would release it. Crap deal!!!

A lil funny blurb:
Was shipping out something SUPER important to my friend in the UK..went to Fedex, and my friend was joking about Castaway and how Tom Hanks better not play with my gift for my friend. The Fedex employee just burst out laughing saying their plane won't crash. Hehe.. And oh yea, it was rather cheap at Fedex for what I wanted them to do. And it got there earlier than they said it would be. Needless to say I scored some brownie points with her. Oops..I meant my friend. |

I can't understand how UPS manage to stay in business, it is completely unbelieveable that they would ever get any repeat customers as everyone seems to have a horror story about them. In mine they charged me 2 brokerage fees for 2 packages; one was $42 and the other was for $72. I paid both when I picked up the packages at their depot but ever since then they have been trying to get me to pay the $72 bill again, even though every time I call them they claim to have it straightened out. Anyway, I can heartily endorse all the negative sentiments about them expressed previously.
