Default Are you the product of a "broken" home?

Looking at the statistics, I wonder how they holds up to OTs personal experience.

The question: Are/Were/Did your parents separate/divorce(d) between the time you were a newborn till you were 17yo? (Not counting death, unless they were murdered by your other parent)

My parents had separated a few times throughout my childhood, but ended up getting back together for a few years then back on the rocks again. Since I wasn't to close with my dad and other unnamed reasons, I always sided with my mother during these times.

Right before he died when I was 17, they were in the process of splitting up again. So never got the divorced label, but knew it was coming.

EDIT: Broken meaning raised by a single parent by choice of the parent(s).

Divorced when I was 6yo after 12 years of marriage. They still get along ok, neither has remarried.

Eh, calling it a broken home implies more downside than some people experience.

My parents divorced when I was one, so I never experienced the negativity that led up to it. They got along well enough, especially later in life, and my Step parents are both awesome.

Dad passed away in 2002, but I'm still super close to my Stepmom and that whole side of the family. I wouldn't piss on some of my blood relatives if they were on fire.

Hmmm I kind of fall into that gray area. My parents divorced when I was about 10, then got remarried when I was 14. Soooo not sure?

My parents split up when I was 16. The were married for 17 years. They always had their problems but they hid it from me and my siblings pretty well. I was old enough to understand and get that they didn't get along. My sister was 14 so she could deal with it. My brother was 8 so it messed him up a little bit. They still "get along" but more or less they love to hate each other. Now that my sister and I both have kids, when we get together for family functions we can all laugh about it and poke fun at the situation and get a good giggle out of my parents bickering at one another.

No. My parents fought a LOT when I was a kid, and still do to this day. I'm pretty sure they don't like each other. They stuck it out for me, and I'm happy for that, but now that they have started spending MORE time together (sans myself and jobs) they are actually warming up to each other.

I can't use the poll due to a lack of posts but I figured I would respond anyways. My parents divorced when I was about 2 years old. My mom was quite a bit younger and wanted to party and my dad wanted to stay home with the family. My mom decided it was best if he found someone better for him and they split amicably. They still talk and are good friends to this day. I am 27 now.

We know what it means, but you could've just asked if we had parents that divorced.

What home is more broken, the one where you have parents that divorced, or the one where they're married, but Mom pops pills all day and Dad drinks until he punches Mom in the face?

Yep.

Parents fought like dogs as early as I can remember (3-4?), got divorced when I was 5, we moved out of state when I was 7.

Dad was a dick, so of course they were barely civil.

After he and I had a falling out ~12 years back we've not spoken @ all. I did return an unexpected email ~ 3 years back saying I was successful, married, and had two awesome kids.
