The good part:

"Hello Davis,

We are anticipating to have Stage 1 thur 3 PPP kits, Aero Parts, Suspension and more. That's all I could mention right now. Power increase still have not been tested, so we do not have any idea right now.

Thanks,
XXXX

(I'm withholding the name of the rep and e-mail address to make sure he doesn't get into any hot water.)

Anybody else happy to hear this? I am!

"Power increase still have not been tested"??
That's funny- considering Irvine Subaru (see www.spimotorsports.com ) has the PPP's listed (as "pre-order" status only) at;
Stage 1 20 hp
Stage 2 40 hp
Stage 3 68 hp

Probably going off the UK numbers, I guess.
Good news in any case,

As I have stated elsewhere, I would not have a prodrive part on my car if it were free.

Fill us in. What experiences bad or god have you had with Prodrive parts? How did they break? What were you doing when it broke?

I have the Prodrive suspension setup on my RS and it has performed flawlessly, while driven hard.

I think if any part is to go on my car, prodrive is much more qualified for Subaru than greddy, hks, blitz etc. Prodrive has been dealing with subaru forever and everyone I have talked to says that their prodrive parts are the best parts on their car, (mufflers, suspension, even the PPP). Look at the thread regarding the PPP for the WRX in the US, the people who drove in it said it was awesome, very smooth and powerful. Isdtead of prodrive bashing we should embrace this company for finaly catering to a huge market here in the US. I look forward to prodrive upgrades for my 04 STI when they are released.

I never said that I broke their parts, I simply detest the way they do business.

They set up several vendors in the US to sell their stuff. Then, when their stuff gets out there, starts selling well, and has a great reputation in the US market, suddenly they pull all their vendors, stick them with the inventory they already have and say too bad we are opening our own outlet.

Sorry, I understand we are in a capitalistic society, but that is straight out crooked.

Hate to tell you this..but this is done everyday.

It is difficult for a Mfg (example: Prodrive) to find good dealers in a new market, especailly ones with good customer service and ones who carry a good size inventory. There's many more variables in this equation too....

Personally, I think Prodrive is an excellent company. If we are going to be dealing direct with Prodrive USA then we can surely be receiving top notch customer service and people who actually know what they are talking about and sell products that have been tested many times over on SUBARU vehicles. (an important part since many if not all performance parts for Subie's are just cross over parts from Honda, Mitsu..etc..)

I look forward to their parts catalog when I get my Sti this summer.

Yeah, I hear ya... but unfortunately that is the way business is handled...most if not all companies in similiar situations operate in the same manner.

It's tough out there...to be competetive you must engage in these practices or go out of business, it is just that simple.

I have to agree. There is nothing morally wrong with this. If the vendors didn't have contracts ... they have no room to argue. The only commitments that Prodrive has to maintain are legal ones.

I would much rather deal with Prodrive directly then some small vendor that put faith in the products early on. Prodrive realizes this and now the market is large enough to capitalize on it.

I've been in the parts selling business. I know how the game is played. If you don't have contracts in writing. You don't have anything. You can't build a business around good feelings and handshakes. Sorry that's business ... that's why most small parts vendors will go belly-up ... and Jegs, Summit, Tire Rack, etc will survive.

Prodrive is only commited to sell good parts and satisy the market. They have no commitment to help these small vendors survive ... nor should they.

I wonder if SOA will let Prodrive mods be installed and still maintain full factory warrenty like in England. It would be worth it even if you have to pay a little more to have it installed by a dealer or a Prodrive shop. I know this is just wihsful thinking, but it would be nice.

Hey guys. Just to clarify...

The numbers on the site are in fact from US cars and not based on the UK versions. Prodrive has done testing on the PPP's and we've worked very close with them every step of the way. Dyno charts should be up soon.

That would be icing on the cake. Let's hope so. However I'm still trying to get over the fact that we are getting a factory STi with that much power.

This will be the most difficult wait for summer since I was in high school...Sti..hurry

The other thing worth noting is that Prodrive might have made that move to insure that a) the wrong vendors can't get their hands on Prodrive parts and b) that there isn't that silly "how low can you go" game going on that vendors sometimes play. It cheapens the reputation of the parts and harms their long-term value, such as it is.

Of course, I admit to being one of those weirdos who doesn't price shop, I vendor shop. If I have gotten excellent service from a vendor, who might have a price that is a bit higher than another vendor, I will patronize the vendor that I have the relationship with. Money isn't everything.

Back on topic, I can't see Subaru allowing Prodrive to do something like that, although it would be very cool. Of course, I think that Subaru ought to pull a Dinan and give Prodrive the hookup for the WRX PPP. Prodrive is a proven company that makes gear that works, flawlessly and reliably.

ummm ... why would you EVER worry about Tire Rack? ... they have all mail order rights tied up for a bunch of brands ... so they lost Prodrive ... so what ... trust me they aren't hurting ... if anyone knows better ... it's them.
