Default HELP ASAP!!! Ver 2. JDM trans into 07 TR.

Hey all, I've found a fully functional JDM ver 2. Trans for $200!

I need to know if this is swappable into my 07 TR and what would be needed in order to make it work. Rear, center diffs? Axles? Etc...

Sorry, tried to search for it but I need this info quick.

Thanks!

Why would you want to? The 07 TR will have a better trans stock.

From front to back.
You need to run a pull type clutch and matching flywheel of the same year. Example purchase clutch/flywheel setup from '02-'05 WRX. You need to change out your slave cylinder to the pull type one i.e. '02-'05 WRX. This is a phase 1 transmission, it will not use all of your transmission bolts and will leave you with 4 extra bolts. For the stud on the starter, use a nut of the same thread pitch as the tranny to engine bolts if it didn't already come with a starter and hardware. You need early '02-'03? front axles because this transmission uses female axles. You may need to swap out your reverse and neutral switch sensors so you can put your tranny harness onto this transmission. You may also need swap your speed sensor over. Replace the shifter U-joint with your WRX one so you can use your shift linkage and don't forget to purchase a pull spring unless it comes with one so you'll know the shift lever is in neutral. Find a 4.111 R160 from a Subaru. If you must keep it "WRX" something from a '02-05 WRX auto will have a VLSD and 4.111FD. It can even come from Forester NA 5spds, & 5spd 2.5RSs (excluding '05 2.5RS; '05 2.5RS Sport with 4.111). Your rear axles will fit right in.

So with all this said is it cost effective for you?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ver2 has taller gears combined with the 4.11, and they aren't any sort of "reinforced" or thicker gears (non-RA). Mating that to the 2.5L turbo seems like a recipe for quick disaster.

For specific applications I suppose it could be a benefit, but you'd probably want an RA set or something stronger I would think.

It's actually shorter gear ratios and the shorter 4.111. It's comparable to driving a 2.5RS. If you ever get to drive an '08 Outback NA 5spd it has the same ratios and final drive. Parts will start moving faster and being geared shorter, RPMs rise quicker thus gearing advantage helps move the car.

The RA gear set is nice. Thicker and shorter geared. The RA transmission driving experience; speed and gear spacing is like our '04 STi without 6th gear.

So what about gutting it for the gearset then? Or would that not be worth it either?

Sorry, yes, I always get taller/shorter backwards -- I always think taller = physically larger gear (circumference). But yes, that's exactly what I meant. I'm quite confident if I mated a 2.5L turbo to my 2.5RS 5speed, it would not be long for this world.

If you're after quicker acceleration, the gears would be good for you, as would the 4.11 final. You could go even further and find something with a 4.44 final. 2nd & 3rd gear become likely casualties of increased stress, especially if you plan to abuse it.

My guess, based on your other post about wanting to drag race, is that you actually want a 6MT with "high speed" ratio gears, which I believe are Legacy spec.B gears.

It's up to you.

Me personally, STi 6spd with Legacy spec B gears. 60mph@ under 2300rpms in 6th and running the 1320 top of 4th up to 9000rpms.

I really like the 5spd. I've driven several STis and 1st gear was practically useless.

That, and I'm not really trying to dump $5k+ into a tranny swap. My budget is closer to $1,200.

You can look at Rallispec and purchase through them. The '05-09 LGT ratios are going to give you the same gear spacing as the ver2; speed wise as long as you fit your tranny with a 4.444FD.

Back in the day my EJ22T swap with a TD04L on pump gas shredded 2nd gear just going WOT up a hill at 2300rpms. Too much torque at too lore of an rpm. Dyno'd doing 240wtq@3200RPMs on a MUSTANG dyno.

The Forester XT and Outback XT in manual transmissions both run a 4.444 which you could fit onto your WRX transmission; ring and pinion. Then just find the rear diff from the same car as well may it be the Outback or Forester etc.
5th gear on the highway will turn more RPMs though....
