Default Just changed timing belt, water pump, thermostat...overheating now

Just did my timing belt on the 02 WRX, with 110K miles. I changed out the water pump and the thermostat as well. All OEM. I filled up the radiator and had the radiator cap open while the car warms up. Set the heater to full blast. The car started to burp and overflow a bit, coolant level went back down, added some more coolant and repeat. Fan kicks in. Then the coolant began to boil over....I thought it was just the air bubbles working its way up. Eventually, it boiled over about 4-5 times, very messy!!! I saw the temp gauge start to shoot up and shut the car off. I felt the lower radiator hose and it was cold, so coolant was definitely getting circulated.

Is this a stuck thermostat, or a faulty water pump? Mind you the water pump and the thermostat are brand new.

Any ideas?

are you sure you installed the thermostat in the correct orientation? cooling systems are supposed to run under pressure, you can't just have it open like that....
