Default power cut on 2nd gear pull

So i was did about a 3/4 pull in second gear in my 2013 sti and it seemed to cut power around 5000 rpm. Almost like going limp, and im on the stock tune. Did it just overboost cause of the cold weather or is this stock tune doing damage? Im saving up for an accessport to get rid of this **** stock tune but i cant help but have some fun with the car. I went for a burn up seymour today too and was ripping.

What mods are you running? Sounds like boost creep.

Did the car jerk back and forth when this happened? If so, it's likely boost creep and your ECU is saving your motor from exploding.

What gas are you putting in it? Have you actually modded the car at all without tuning it (really bad idea)? Even an exhaust/downpipe and intake will throw off your a/f without a tune.

I guess there's no stock boost gauge to check. I would say it was probably just a misfire, could be caused by any number of things but likely just a detonation from the cold air up the mountain. I'm not sure that the slight elevation increase would lighten the oxygen load in the ambient gas to actually cause detonation but the temperature might, especially if you're pushing it.

Straight line dry conditions? I've had something similar happen, but the traction control light will flicker.

Positive manifold pressure is the same regardless of elevation

I always have traction control off even on ice lol. But it seems to have only happened the one time so it should be fine. I gotta get a tune asap, the stock tune is pretty disapointing

I dont know how it could be operator error when all i did was do a pull from 3000 rpm and it cut power at 5000. I had an evo before my sti so im not new to turbo engines.

Don't feed the trolls just ignore him. Everyone else is here to help and it's just a matter of some Q and A to rule out the obvious stuff. I have had power cut on my car but in stock form it really shouldn't happen. Here's a couple possibilities:

1. Traction control kicking in. I know you said you don't use it but are you sure it was fully off when this happened? It's the most likely.

2. Fuel starvation. Were you on Empty? Or less than a 1/4 tank? This is also common. It's not likely to do much more than cut out for a second or two.

3. It could be over-boosting but it seems unlikely on the stock tune. Cold weather makes it more likely but it's still rare on stock tune. If it over-boosts it cuts fuel and it's a pretty violent experience if you are not expecting it. Going from WOT to 0% throttle.

4. It could be sensing knock, real or false. This is also unlikely to be so noticeable, especially on a stock tune. There will be timing corrections at times but not enough that it's crazy noticeable. Old gas, contamination and condensation could contribute.

If it's easily repeatable, don't do it. Wait till you can get to a meet and get someone with LOTS of experience to go for a ride. The other option is to go to Rocket, Dales or another reputable shop. Don't mess around with such a nice machine.

Rocket isn't accepting new clients , and did you ever stop to think that I might know him seeing as how I used his real name in one of the posts and I'm just giving him a hard time rather then being a troll , maybe you should pay a bit more attention before making accusations

No check engine light? I would imagine that something that noticeable would throw a code.
