02 wrx is killing me
02 wrx Cobb tbe, 06 sti tmic, grimspeed upipe, 255 walbro, kompact bov 100% recirc, sti pinks, vf48, stage 2 clutch light weight fly wheel, spt short RAM, mishimoto rad and rad hoses, samco ic hoses. More mods but not related to the problem.
Pro tuned but lost faith in tuner So after I did the vf48 swap pinks, sti tmic and fuel pump and had it tuned. The car starts rough kinda rough idle and in 4th and 5th gear wot it seems like its not getting enough fuel and lulls in and out ( tuner flow tested and cleaned injectors before install ). Talked to tuner said it was clutch slipping replaced clutch same problem but know I am getting misfire codes. Replaced all spark plugs and had timing belt done with clutch. Just got a compression tester and built a boost leakage tester haven't done either yet no time. Please help me Sorry for spelling and grammar

Figure the misfires are due to light weight flywheel also had no cell codes until fly wheel was installed.

Misfires on all cylinders or mostly cylinder 3? Your Fuel rail may be your limiting factor if that is the case, may want to do parallel fuel rail mod or go with aftermarket fuel rails. How many miles are on it, may want to clean up your maf as well.

First off thanks for the replies....The misfires have mostly been cylinder#4 however I didn't start getting the cels till after I installed the light weight fly wheel which I guess will give ghost misfire cel codes. I was also thinking it could be the injectors

it definately sounds fuel or tune related. Check all your fuel filters and post up a data log if you have an AP or have access to one

have your tuner turn off the CELs for p0301-4 if you no longer wish to see them from the light weight flywheel.
Do the boost leak test, then report back. You can install pinks into a stock ECU car and it will idle just fine (stable). Since you report it is rough then I'm guessing the turbo inlet is torn, or there is an air leak some where in the system (boost leak test will find this). In short, the tuner would have to be an idiot to not be able to get it to idle smooth since it takes virtually no changes to do so Change the scale size and you are set. Maybe fidget a little with the MAF table for the intake, but it should still idle smooth on those injectors. As someone else pointed out, you will be running out of injector size depending on how aggressive the tune is done. It will be close. The surge in the higher gears: You need to data log and see what is going up and down. Is it boost pressure, timing advance, etc. That will explain quite a bit. [email protected] |

3 cylinder? no turbo heat shield heating that area up and the story begins...otherwise you've got a bad turbo, the most common 1/3 cylinders to give up. do a compression test for sure. rough idling prob from bad injectors? goodluck

The only AP that will work on your car is: ap-sub-001.

^ this is false unless i am off base by the naming convention. ap-sub-001 is the version 1 ap that can not be unmarried from a car thro the device. There is a version 2 ap that can be used for 02-04 wrx and i believe it is called a ap-sub-002. Dont think a bad turbo will cause misfire. If compression is good then it is probably the tune or the flywheel. Do some research on that specific flywheel to see if others have had the same issue and if it is the cause i would suggest switching back to a heavier flywheel just because, personally, i would not want to delete misfire detection from my car.

I had a misfire in cylinder 4 and it took me soo long to figure out the culprit. It ended up being bad coil packs.. i would check those out. My car acted the same way you described and once i changed those out it was back to normal.

Ancillary hose kit does NOT come with all of the hoses that you need. Actually it comes with some pretty unnecessary hoses, such as the one that dictates your bpv. I went to subaru to order the kit, it comes with all of your hoses/T-fittings/restrictor pills for wastegate, boost control solenoid............. >>>>>>>>>>>>you should do the same. Seriously. |
