Like to thank you for your help and support. But the car is trash.

Turns out it was the wheel hub and bearing that broke and caused a loss of steering for the entire car. Was going to pay for the service to be done yesterday until the mechanic called me and told me that it's not worth dumping anymore money into the car. Photo is attached for the frame in the rear, as you can see it's literally hanging and not attached to anything at all.

I have no other choice but to junk the car. The entire unibody is completely rusted to hell. There's no possibility I'll get my $3000 back from the person I've bought it from nor will he attempt to reason with me that this was a dangerous situation I was in while driving.

Lessons learned.

Oh, yeah that's a total write off.

Do you have space (or desire) to pull the motor and other accessories to swap into a roller?

Desire, absolutely. Funds to find a roller, not at this moment. Taxes should come in a few days and if I find one it's gotta be towed from northern Ohio or in the middle of Indiana or Virginia, somewhere.

That power plant and drive train will probably fit in a lot of models from 1998 to 2006, not just WRX and STI, but Impreza RS and TS, as well as Outback Sport chassis. You'd have to swap out wiring harness, and to make it a lot easier, stay with the same transmission style (nothing complicates a job like trying to fab in a clutch pedal).

Will do. Finding a good and actually solid frame shouldn't be too difficult, just need to do my due diligence.

Actually, it might be tough - at least around here. Subaru didn't use the best quality rust proofing, especially if you're looking at cars almost 2 decades old.

My bugeye is currently at Turn In Concepts to deal with a bunch of oil leaks, but I've reached a point that a 'major' repair would be the end of that car - there's so much rust underneath it that it's now worth dumping too much money into. But it's a fun/weekend car now anyway, not my primary transport.

First time being on the website, if it's the right one I searched up. Would you have a link?

He posted it on Facebook. Give him a ring and tell him Clint sent you about the shell that he has.

Lively times on “teh thread” over the years. Now just a shadow of its former self. I think Facebook and antisocial media deserve most of the blame. And Subaru for doing as little as possible since the early 2000s.

Facebook and internecine fighting led to a split which ended in the generation of two independent (and oppositional) Cincinnati message boards. Both of which died quick deaths as there wasn't enough traffic to support them, and feelings were so hurt that users never made it back to NASIOC.

So now, it's just us tidying up around the headstones.

It's not just 'teh thread'. All of NASIOC got hit by this trend - just look at low volume of new posts in the general FS sections.

I don't know if they're still on there, as I don't have a FB account. I think one of the local boards redirected to a FB page, but I can't say how active it is.

The only way I know of local meet ups is if somebody, usually Tuned200, clues me in.

It has. Having a family takes a lot of time. Finally replaced the Avalon with something that's worth driving. It's not a suby. Not much going on here, huh?

Pretty dead on NASIOC in general - just look at the various FS sections as evidence. Locally, I think the activity went to Facebook, or just ceased to be.

I miss install days, but I'm getting a little too old and fat to be crawling under cars anymore.

Same here. I just miss hanging out. The VW sites are less active then here. I might do the occasional cars and coffee, if they start doing them again.

I'm not sure if it will happen this year (usually it's in September), but Joseph Subaru usually hosts a pretty big meet.

Waiting for my facebook to delete before I create a new one and join a local group on there but I am looking to get an axle back exhaust for my wrx and wonder if there are any shops that would be recommended in the NKY area for an install? Should be pretty effortless to install it, I just dont have access to tools, or a place to do it at my apartment. And I really really hate being under a car . I dont mind paying someone.

Any independent mechanic could do it. Axle back should just be a pair of 12 or 14 mm nuts, and rubber hangers. Not sure NKY, but TiC is in Norwood.
