One varaible stays the same. The driver. He posted this for EVERYONE to read thus it has been stickified. Having a super fast car like yourself, you should realize that not all 300,000 people on here can handle that power no matter how much lag u have. A downshift is a downshift ur gonna haul ass.
And there are people who recieve do large sums of money when they turn 18 or get out of the service or recieve an inheritence and want to go from stock to rotated or just straight up buy a 400hp impreza. I would say (and im sure someone has 800 posts ago) that the OP is geared towards those folks and not so much for those of us making the "journey"

Do this if you have a "stage 2" car (make sure you have these parts)

Custom tune. A GOOD custom tune. Do research before you pick a tuner. just because they own a shop doesnt make them good.

So you'll have to forgive me if you covered it in the 36 pages before me, but you state that installing a 20g becomes a "not if, but when" your engine blows scenario, but then go on to say, stage 2 people should throw in a 20g?

this is an interesting thread (only read alittle) like said most people really dont realize how fast you can get in trouble if you dont know how to drive a high HP car. really i just got my sti (still in a million pieces, be running soon) but have had many fast vehicles. really my pride and joy is my pickup (duramax) which used to make 650whp and over 1200wlb of torque (its back to a single turbo now so its at 550whp now) but i never let anyone besides me drive it on that high of a tune. ill tell you its a hand full and that is a 7500lb pickup that runs 12.4-12.5 quartes in 4wd (let me tell you its alittle scary when you lift the front wheels off the ground and rip your front suspension apart). 400whp in a 3200lb car really goes. im looking forward to that though.

o and trust me, 1200whp in a twin procharged, custom built 427 C5 corvette with 16 inch wide rear street slicks scares the living $hit out of a guys. (a friends build, 2 years and 80k later she flies)

Your truck is fast but im sorry you didnt pull the wheels on a dmax. (especially in 4wd???)

1200awhp gtr really scares the living s*** out of a guys. (1200 hp rwd on anything but hoosiers is ridiculous)

well you can ask my checkbook when i had to buy new tie rods if the wheels came off the ground and bounce the front end. its not that far but a 4wd boost lauch at 20PSI with the tbars crank up all the way, yes you will bounce the front wheels. 1200wlb really can mess stuff up. it was my fault. didnt have the trac bars in the back and didnt have the front lowed down. here is and example.

Ok heres my setup someone give me advice please..

08STi-AEM CAI, Invidia catless DP, custom 3" SPT CBE.

If I upgrade my injectors and pump will I get 400whp with an FP green or 20g? Im assuming this is all I need?

Default 350-400whp

I was wondering about the difference in the 2.0l and the 2.5l when trying to reach 350-400whp? I have had high powered V8 cars but wanted something awd so i am fairly new to the box/turbo motors. I was also wondering about a new or rebuilt turbo for my stock wrx, it has 135,000 miles and think it may need some work, could i just put on a td05 or should i just buy a refurbished td04 to get through the winter?

400whp on a 2.0 is very difficult, you have to rev it out to about 8k to really make it worthwhile. Also, reliability suffers because of the higher pressures in the 2.0 engine.

A td05 really means nothing, that's generally just in reference to the the hot side housing, although it could mean the turbine size as well. An upgraded turbo for a 2.0 would be more along the lines of the 16g or some variant (take a look at Blouch 16gxt).

You don't want to spend the money on rebuilding your td04, just buy a used one. They range from 25-150 bucks (depending on mileage and if you know the person). There should be some in the classifieds for sale.

I never said you didnt break something... That I don't doubt one bit. Its just there's a huge difference between raising the front end on a launch and seeing daylight under the tires... Wheel hop doesn't mean your pulling the wheels and how about posting a vid of your truck doing this wheelie

No prob, glad I could help. Building/machining the 2.0 heads is an option (what's what I did, twice actually) or doing JDM 2.0 STI heads is a great option, just really expensive. If you want AVCS that naturally raises the price for everything. In all actuality, saving money for an actual 2.5 avcs head swap with full wiring is truly the way to go. Or, better yet, just buying a STI with that built in. It would have saved me 10's of thousands.

Well bouncing you got daylight under you tires. Sorry I don't have any videos of my pickup. Its also going to be under construction after the Sti gets back together. Its getting 45 over nozzles, new cp3, one of my smaller hybrid turbos, building a new twin kit, new torque converter, some suspension changes and a few more things.

It seems to me it's the same one every forum. If the car comes with 200bhp, someone wants it to put out 300bhp. If it has 400bhp they want 500bhp. If stock is 600bhp they want 1000bhp.

It seems to me that a racing school and lots of seat time on a proper track will be a bigger thrill than just putting your foot to the floor on a big number and hanging on. IMHO

I just wanted to share my story. Before my STi, I drove an '03 Subaru Outback -- a straight 165hp race car. I got my STi, took it out for the first time on my road, gave it about 25% throttle, and my heart almost flew out of my throat. I went and took my buddy for a ride in it, gave it 50% throttle, and he was cowering in his seat, curled up in a ball, shaking, with his mouth wide open, asking me "HOW?!?!".

I started out with basic mods: intake, TBE, etc. Then I started to go big: meth injection, GT35R, etc. It made 400whp on low boost and no meth, on the stock clutch. We kept the boost down to preserve the stock clutch. I got back from the pro-tune, took my buddy for a ride in it (he had ridden in my car many times while it was stock), and he was cowering in his seat. Same thing happened with my other friends.

Then I decided to take it even further and build the motor. I know, I should have done this in the first place, but I was planning on doing it anyway. The stock motor handled the 400whp fine before I decided to build it. I am building the motor for 500+ whp, and my tuner said we will make 500whp. The motor should be done mid-next week, actually.

It took me about $10,000 to get to 400whp. Provided, I didn't skimp on the parts, and I could have easily made more than 400whp. Since then, I have put an additional $10,000 into the car, and I have SO much more I want to do. So, $20,000 total, so far. It takes money to get to the higher power levels. As mentioned earlier in the thread, pay off your car before you start the heavy modding. By buddy has an STi with an AP, intake, and TBE. He's no where close to paying it off yet. I paid cash for my car, so I started with the mods. As soon I got the 35R and such, he started talking about taking out another loan so he could mod his car to rally car specs and make 400hp and 600tq and "smoke me" *facepalm*.

Let me stress that, to a driver who is inexperienced with "faster" cars, 300bhp is nuts. To a driver who is experienced, 400whp is nuts. But having that kind of power at your disposal takes discipline and skill. As previously mentioned, you can get to 100mph in no time in a 400whp car. You need to learn to handle that ability. Please don't floor it in the middle of the city, suddenly notice a car backing out, brake too late, and smash into the other car, injuring yourself and possibly other people.

Learn how to drive your 300bhp car first, pay it off completely, then move onto to more power.

I test drove a 04 sti in Florida a few years ago. The salesman said it had 400awhp but I don't know if he actually meant 400bhp. What I do know is, that thing was A BEAST. I don't recall in this thread who posted it but you definitely get to 100mph waaaaaaaaay faster than usual. I had just bought an 06 Lancer so that was a huge difference for me. Luckily I was in Tallahassee, a relatively small city with open roads. The salesman(a teenager that just started two days prior) kept egging me on, saying things like "It`s awd, you cant make the wheels spin. Go ahead, try it. Rev to 4k and drop the clutch" So I did...And I have been searching for that power ever since

But in all honesty, it was a scary amount of power. Going from the lancer to that...I saw allot of red and blue lights in my future or worse, no lights as i wrapped it around a poll. Increasing your power in stages, while getting use to the power is the way to go IMO.

I have to agree. If you haven't experienced 300whp don't skip to 400whp. I started with an 02wrx which I had to get right off the truck and made 280 with vf23 then 350 with vf22 and 50 shot. Was out of the game for a bit then grabbed an 04 sti and made just under 400 which took a bit to get use to until the ring land gave out. Bought a 93 rx7 and built it to 500 whp and let me say that the car was scary fast on the street especially only weighing 2640 lbs. Well I'm done babbling, I guess my point is to increase the power in stages, the power is only as good as the driver behind it.

This reminds me of when I used to work for a Porsche dealership. The first two months I drove Boxster's and Carrera's. All fast, but then I got to drive a Turbo. 996 Twin Turbo 415HP. I thought to my self only a 100 more than a Carrera can't be that bad. Well the sales manager gave me once piece of advice: "If you floor it make sure the wheels are straight". That car blew me away. If was soooo fast, the AWD makes it take off and bam you're in the next time zone.

I was driving a lightly modded GTI VR6 at the time and my car felt so slow after that.

I'd be happy with 300HP in my wagon (soon).

I'm looking to make a reliable 400whp out of my car. I'm planning on getting the 3076 GT30R .82 A/R on a TXS Rotated setup. Along with all the supporting mods. I'm thinking Manley H-Beams and Pistons (still undecided) along with some cylinder honing and maybe headwork could get me there. Any words of advice?

I like this thread, its kinda funny. My friend has a 600whp evo thats one of the fastest street cars in the state. He took me for a ride a couple months ago, hammered it going 60 in the middle of the night on the highway. Lost traction at every gear change, it was pretty ridiculous. I've driven some high dollar exotics, even an indy car in las vegas...nothing has ever made me grab the oh **** handle like that. He pretty much daily drives it, which I think is even more ridiculous, leaves it at home for his other beater when it snows a lot.
I like my sti stock. Its way faster than i need for daily driving. Its absurdly tough and dependable too. I beat on it and it keeps giving back with a smile. Lots of people here keep saying if youre gonna mod the engine, do it in small stages. I honestly feel different. Either im going to keep it totally stock...or im gonna build a 550hp monster, full race/show car. Of course it would have to be my second or third car...maybe when i eventually get the TRD FJ cruiser ive always wanted ill start putting away the 50k to make that happen...but then why not just put away another xxx$$$$ on top of that and get a lambo or ferrari (or porsche gt3rs4.0)? And use the sti as my winter snowmobile or fun grocery getter

Sure, id love a powerband that stretched out to 9200rpm and made enough torque to spin the earth off axis. But then what? Do i street race? Live at the drag strip? Touge runs down the canyons of Boulder? Professional Time Attack racer or show car circuit trailer queen driver?
IDK, its a tough life living with such a slow car as the Sti. But i guess im happy knowing that my car works every time i start it up...its faster than almost anything else on the road, and i also like that i probably have one of like 10 stock 2004 sti's left in this country

I couldn't have said it better BoulderJVP04STI. I have loved my 02 Bugeye ever since I got it in 05. It has alot of mods on it tho, but what I did was when something wore out I just replaced it with a better aftermarket part than OEM. The motor is out of it right now and I have a 2.5 sti block with CP forged pistons that's about to be dropped in very soon along with some other engine goodies. What led to the engine going out was my doing, I lifted a head and the motor ate coolant at over 100mph. So after that happened I was then wanting to build a 400whp daily driver. But as I did more and more research I found that 400whp on a daily was feasible with a good tune but the reliability wasn't. So in turn I am going to shoot for anywhere from 350-380whp with my setup to have fun reliable street car. And congrats on keeping your sti stock, lol, because I know many of us wouldn't be able to.

I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but WHP is a relative comparison fabricated to convince people to buy machinery in a time when miners used horses for manual labor- granted driving at ridiculously high speeds is fun, but how many of us can truly afford to justify modifications on that level? The question you should really be asking yourselves is this: "How frequently do I find myself on a long clear stretch of road under ideal conditions, where the posted speed limit is above 80mph or there are no policemen for at least fifteen miles?"
The engineers who designed the inner and outer workings of your vehicle calculated out everything to beyond 0.001", your average sheet of paper measures in at about 0.004" thick- changing specs by even ten thousandths of an inch can easily destroy an engine.
