Default `05/`06 Tail light swap

So last Sunday osuRexWagon and I braved the pouring rain to swap our wagon tail lights (He has an `06 and I an `05). We figured it was going to be a simple unbolt the housing, pull out the wiring/plugs/bulbs and swap housings but no! Turns out the '05 and '06 use different bulbs and plugs so everything had to be swapped. About an hour later we had everything swapped and working, all the connections resoldered, heat shrinked, wrapped and tested. The only difficult part was translating the wiring colors between both harnesses, so I've put that below. Another note is that the `06 harness combines all the ground wires at the connector, so keep that in mind.
HTML Code:
Wiring color map

		2005 2006

Brake Black Black
		Red/Black Red/Yellow
		Green/Brown White/Black

Turn Black/Brown Black
		Yellow/Brown Green/Black

Reverse Black/White/Brown	Black
		White/Brown Brown/Yellow

seriously. It's all PNP. I did mine in 5mins including pulling the panels and everything. All you should have done was bolted the lights in and plugged in the harness.

The interior trim inside the trunk behind the taillights. All you need to do is remove the plastic in the middle and pull back the panels, then you have access to the lights, undo a few nuts, unplug the light, plug in new light, tighten bolts. easy.

Its just a couple bolts and unplugging the harness. Very easy, wagons are a little diff but sedans are a 10min swap at most, and thats one person doing two cars 10min.

I just did this today (also posted a new thread above)!! Although it only took me a few minutes. Just take off the 4 bolts under the trunk panel using an 8mm socket rench and then unplugging the harness. Super easy switch that made a big difference for the better in the look of my '06 wrx since its silver. My '04 wrx that I took it from is black so the new tails don't look that bad either.

Well I performed this swap on my '06 with lights from an '05 and as far as I can tell the swap is plug-and-play for sedans but not wagons.

Anyways, I made an easy to follow pic based on invadersevlow's original findings. Soldering made me a little nervous but as long as you solder well and seal everything up tight there shouldn't be any issues.

Fuuu. I'm swaping 04 tails into my 06. I just went to connect all of the wires and my 06 wiring is colored different from what you guys have posted.

The turn and reverse was easy enough to figure out but i don't know which of the red/blue dotted and green/red dotted wire on the 04/05 brake light is the power for the actual braking and or the night lights.

Alright, realized i could just connect them quick and see which ones are which. If your wires were colored the same as mine, the brake light wires will be solid green and green with a white strip. Here is how they connect-

Green - Green/Brown dotted
Green w/ white stripe - Red/Black (going by the OP on the black dots, i thought it was blue dotted)

Easy to figure out but what the hell, might as well share.

You would have to effectively re-pin the connector on the lamp-side to match the connector on the car-side.

Map the wiring for the car and for the lamp and then re-pin.

Pins are different... the pins on the V9 are female pins and the pins on my 06 tails male
