Default Old house aficionados: I just found an aerial photo of my house from 1934

I found this photo and thoguht I would share it. Feel free to comment.

Edit:

The building off to the left by the driveway was a garage. Behind the house and to the right was the wash house and in front to the left is the well house. The house should be rather self-explanatory.

It was a garage. I'm sure at that time it probably stored a Model T, although I'm not sure. I'll have to ask.

The photo is a faded 5x7 that was found in a now falling apart paperboard frame that had a company name on it of some kind, presumably the company that photographed the house to start with. If you look closely behind the main house, there is another house that they temporarily lived in while this house was built in 1925. This picture was taken when the house was about 9-10 years old. What I wish I had a photo of, but do not, is the original plantation house which stood on the same spot but burned in 1924.

Here is a current pic of the house, although not even remotely the same angle.

Clarification: The little house out back no longer exists and has not for a number of years. There is a small dilapidated section of it still standing in a now overgrown area.

Which photo? The 2nd one I took on a cold winter's day from across the road; we own the land so it's no big deal. The original one from 1934 I acquired from my grandmother recently. She found it in a stack of photos. Oddly enough her own home burned in 1991. That photo survived the fire.

Very nice. The house looked better with the shutters on it, though.

I'm wondering how they got such a clear aerial photo back in 1934?

Cool shot and awesome house.

You own my dream home - sort of

It's not in the best shape nowadays; paint is peeling a little off the outsides, the insides still need some work, little things here and there. It's definitely got character!

I don't know when the shutters were removed; long before any time that I can remember. I just wish we could use the upstairs. It's just full of junk nowadays.

The new photo makes the house look a bit tiny compared to the older photo.

You should try to find someone who flys and see if they can get a current picture from the same/similar angle and altitude. Then frame them and hang them side by side.
That would be cool.

Very cool pic you have there.

Another idea I just had would be to digitize the old one, get a digital current one, and superimpose them, one over the other. That would be even coolerer.

Do you know the year it was built? You should consider attaching a copy of the old photo to a calender displaying that particular year (all months) and frame it with a nice matting. Makes a nice conversation piece.

I always wondered what looked odd about your place, Mike... that's it - it needs shutters!

Keep in mind I have a garage full 'o' tools, we should do some summer projects at your place!

Somewhere beyond 150 acres. Not sure. Some fields, mostly wooded.

1925. Same as I wrote next the the 2nd picture. It hasn't changed.

I will definitely do that! How about a "This Old House" episode for some local NASIOC members when we need to repaint it? (It actually needs repainting now.) How about in the spring?
