Default NEPA Mountain Biking Thread

I figured I would start a thread to see if anyone was interested in mountain biking in NEPA. I ride in the Jim Thorpe and Mountain Top area. This is my second year out. If anyone is interested in going riding and/or wants to check out some new trails post here. For my first time out I plan on going riding at the Broad Mountain Loop (just north of Jim Thorpe on rt 93) Sunday around noon, weather permitting. If interested or you need more details (directions) let me know.

Tom

Could always get a rental for the day.

The weather is supposed to be nice Sunday. Sunny with a high near 60 degrees.

You might be an hour or so away. Look up Jim Thopre (the town not the person) to get a better idea of how far you are.

I would say the skill level required is minimal with a technical difficulty of about 2 (in a 1-5 scale, 5 being extreme). The Broad Mount Loop is a 10 mile ride of double track trails. There is a power line trail that cuts between the loop, which if taken can extend or shorten the riding distance if you wanted. There are "a few sections of loose rock and soft sand that warrant a bit of caution. And there are three fun but challenging creek crossings". There are two overlooks that are pretty amazing. The elevation change is maybe 300' +/- throughout the loop.

Went out yesterday to the Broad Mountain. This time we hit up the Deer Path and Pine Tar Trail, both off of the loop. I went with a friend who races. I couldn't keep up for the life of me, but I did get the chance to rock out some sweet single track. Then he broke his chain and I towed him for about 3 miles back to the car. I was whipped. So for my second time out this year I rode about 15 hard miles and towed my 180 lb friend for part of the way.

Looks like I won't be able to ride until next week sometime. Anyone wanna go after work (around 5pm)?

Hey guys, I'll be riding with a buddy tomorrow (sun) at 9am in the Wissahickon trails. Some of the trails are more technical (hillier and rockier) than others, but all in all a blast to ride. I know the trails really well, so we can pick and choose. If any of you are interested, let me know asap.

By the way, Peter did rebuild the motor and fixed the front end damage. I think he's getting the car on Monday.

Hey do any of you guys do HPDE's. I'll be teaching at the FATT (Fridays At The Track) school on April 28th. It's at Summit Point WV on the Shanendoah Circuit. Wondering if anyone here is signed up?

doh, things keep coming up which require $$. Hence making my "new" mt. bike lower on my list of things to buy.

If there is a fairly local ride i'd be in. Not sure on going to Hazleton area, at least till I get a few rides in.

I can't make it tomorrow, but for future reference how long are the Wissahickon trails? I don't mind making the 2 hour drive, but I want to make sure the trails are more then a few miles long.

I went and explored the trails at Tuscarora State Park. I left unfulfilled. So, I will prolly be going for a ride at the Broad Mountain Loop tomorrow morning around 9-10am. I have to be home before noon. If anyone is interested let me know before then.

Ok, if anyone wants a bike, let rexfan know (yes, a bike shop owner). He supports the suby's (out drive 99% of us) so....buy a bike from him
Ok, i did a shamless plug for youre bike shop Lee.
